Stuetz is better

Created by: OlegP
Team: 2021-22 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 1, 2021

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Clearly, a few can't read the notes so here it is in detail

Matt Murray is OVERPAID and 6.25million AAV over 4 years is not something the Kraken will take on with cheaper options in net available for an expansion franchise.
If he struggles at all... Ottawa would be smart to expose him and protect another young goalie. Many ppl in Ottawa have already speculated on this including Hailey Salvian (beat reporter)

D'accord is coming on strong and is cheap. Nsh's Connor Ingram/D'accord can go both go in expansion as they can sit in the minors.
30 NHL contracts wont fit on Kraken roster from expansion.

Zaitsev contract can't be moved without Dorion holding his nose and taking on a bad deal for a year at least. Loui's deal with a low salary is PERFECT! and the Canucks are desperate enough to take on a Zaitsev deal at 4.5M AAV over 3 more years starting in 2021 to give them breathing room in 2021 for Petey and Hughes out of ELC deals

OTT
  1. Eriksson, Loui
  2. Roussel, Antoine
Additional Details:
Sens save 3.5m in cap space in 2022, 2023 not to mention real money savings for Melnyk IMMEDIATELY Sens should be fighting to take on Loui's contract and no one will take Zaitsev unless bad money goes the other way
VAN
  1. Watson, Austin
  2. Zaitsev, Nikita ($1,000,000 retained)
  3. 2021 2nd round pick (SJS)
Additional Details:
This only benefits the Canucks for 2021-22 but they are desperate for cap space. Short term gain for longer term pain. Also, in 2022 they'll have money off the books to fit in Zaitsev or buy him out if Woo, Juolevi progress as expected

I think the funniest part is that you think Seattle takes Daccord. Ottawa has to leave one of either Murray or Gustavsson exposed. No chance they take Daccord over one of them

Ottawa doesn’t retain and the wrong team is sending the 2nd pick. Vancouver’s need for cap space trumps Ottawa’s cheap owner.

Protect Gus and they take D'accord. They'll be many goalies available. Crawford/Allen I have the Kraken passing

They would 100% take Murray in that spot. A goalie in his prime signed to multiple years that's one 2 cups is hands down the better pick. You'd lose him easily

Read them before I posted. Ottawa doesn’t need the cap space only benefit is saving real cash but again they have many other options for taking on cap from teams wiling to pay more without giving up assets. Easy no from Ottawa.

If MM doesn't bounce back BIG and its doubtful on this team, it's pointless to protect a 6.25M goalie signed long term. Its hilarious that you think the Kraken would be interested when guys like Khudobin and Holtby will be available both much cheaper and shorter term deals

... & both goalies are older and have almost no value (Holtby) and will be protected (Khudobin - Bishop to probably be exposed be a sue of injury history and Dallas has Oettinger to come fill his role). Murray at his worst as last season has more value than both of them. Hence why he signed longer and more money than both of them.

Murray went for nothing and is now overpaid. Thats a negative value asset. Thinking they'll take MM is the same as thinking the Kraken will jump all over another bad deal like Mike Matheson. Thats not how expansion works unless there is a sweetener involved

& thinking they take a career AHL goalie is not how expansion works either. Lmao

    amateur response

    LOL

You literally told me the exact same thing but it just benefited your side. That's the amateur response.

If any team had a choice between a career AHL goalie, or a guy that had 1 tough season but is a 2 time cup champion, signed at a reasonable price for 3 years.. 100x over they're taking the cup champ.

Unless you've become accustomed to losing like you would have since you're posting about Ottawa.

I could definitely see Ottawa doing this without retention, not for the real money sake or anything.

Ottawa needs to start focusing on their long term here. If you can get rid of Zaitsev to take on bad contracts that would only have one year left then you're free, you do that no question.
