VAN decline. They are not moving Virtanen for a declining player. VAN can't afford to lose another quality top 6 forward.

Virtanen aint a top6 F but your point still stands. Maybe Carter for like a 2nd tho, could see him fitting well in VAN

Virtanen scored 18 goals playing on a third line with limited pp time. If he gets more ice time he can easily hit 20+ goals and 45-50 point pace, which is reasonable production for a second line player.

Carter is still a 20 goal scorer with cup experience. He's good defensively and can play C/RW. The only edge Virtanen has on Carter is age. Canucks have been showing Virtanen for quite some time.

Value wise, this trade is fine.

I agree with you that VAN has tried to move Virtanen in the past, but Jim Benning is not going to move him for an aging assets or below market value.

What exactly do you think Virtanen is worth?

Carter is 35 and hasn't scored 20+ goals since the 16-17 season. There's no interest from Vancouver in make this trade. Virtanen playing top 6 minutes has was more potential than Carter. Value wise, Carter might get a you 3rd round pick or a 2nd at the trade deadline if LA retains 50% of his salary. I'd counter with Sutter for Carter, 1 for 1 no salary retained.

That comment comes from a serious lack of research. In 17-18 Carter had 13 goals in 27 games. 18-19 bad season for everyone. Last season he had 17 goals in 60 games which means he was on pace for 30+ goals, partially on the 3rd line.

13 still isn't 20, no matter how many games played. He could have score 13 goals in 1 game played and still wouldn't have a 20 goal season. There is no "lack of research", I looked up his stats. The fact is Carter hasn't scored 20 or more goals since 16-17.

Right but there's no way he could score 7 goals in 55 more games.... LOL.

There's no way he could score 3 goals in 22 more games last season.......... Your argument is ridiculous.

Could have, but he didn't play 22 more games last season so he still had a 17 goal season.
My argument was that Carter hasn't had a 20+ goal season since 16-17 and it make no sense to trade Virtanen for him.

If thats your argument then Virtanen isn't a 20 goal scorer either and Carter has been significantly better than him the last 3-4 season in which case as I said before the only edge Virtanen has on Carter is age.

I could easily say if Carter played with better linemates or played with Kopitar he'd be a 30 goal 50 point player because he would, but those are just variable like you saying Virtanen would be better in the top 6.

If Virtanen was that good, the Canucks would have never traded for Toffoli...

Virtanen had 18 last season which is also not 20.

The difference is age, Virtanen is young and improving while Carter is old and declining. You can make up any hypothetical situation of if he'd for either of them but it doesn't change what the reality is. Carter isn't a bad player, he's just trending downward. Virtanen has more potential at this point. I'd rather have Carter than Eriksson, Sutter, Beagle or Roussel but not Virtanen.

Toffoli was to replace Boeser when he was injured and would likely miss the rest of the season.

so hes a middle six guy, if youre a fringe 2nd liner you arent a top 6 guy. like the player but yea, not a top6 guy yet

He has improved every season and he knows this is probably going to be his last chance in VAN if he doesn't deliver.

VAN probably would want to do a hockey trade involving another player who needs a change of scenery, but they are not in any sort of rush to get rid of Virtanen.
