GENIUS

Created by: CEO
Team: 2020-21 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 3, 2021
Published: Jan. 3, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The trade will swap goaltenders, and give us another top 6 forward, so Virtanen can play on the third line. We still have plenty of cap space next season, and we will be able to sign Hamonic and Vatanen. Offence Lines 2 and 4 will be defensive lines (line 2 also has a lot of offense, and can make quick plays), while 1 and 3 are primarily Offensive (line 3 is just players who can't defend). Hughes and Schmidt will join the first line on offensive plays, and will be a powerhouse. PK 1 will be very resistant, and expect some shorthanded goals from it. PK 2 is a more quiet line. We will slowly expose Juolevi, Rafferty, and maybe even Rathbone to NHL roles. Eventually, Hoglander may be able to take Roussel's job, and MacEwan is much more physical than Virtanen and Gaudette, so he may be able to step in. Podkolzin will be signed ASAP, and may even play a game or so. Benn will play games, and if someone is injured, we will have that cushion. This team should be able to make the playoffs, and hopefully Demko and Quick will make a better-than-average Tandem.

Trades
VAN
  1. Iafallo, Alex
  2. Quick, Jonathan
Additional Details:
Last year, Quick had a save percentage of .904, while Holtby's was only .897. While I understand Quick is older, he can still serve as a mentor to Demko and as a back up. We also get Alex Iaffalo, a legitimate top 6 forward. We also lose the weight of Baertschi's contract, so VAN definitely accepts
LAK
  1. Baertschi, Sven
  2. Brisebois, Guillaume
  3. Holtby, Braden
  4. 2021 2nd round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
Most of us will agree that Holtby has much higher value than quick right now, and he is signed for lesser value. Quick's contract is bad for LA, and they lose it. Baertchi isnt valuable to VAN right now, but he could play in LA's top 6, possibly alongside Kopitar. Brisebois will make their Taxi Squad. The second round pick is the final addition, and makes the trade fully balanced.

Why would the Kings accept that? They currently need Quick for the same reason you are trying to aquire him. Mentoring Petersen, our next starter.

Kings decline, they have the cap space and none of the prospects coming back really move the needle.

Would Joulevi do the trick instead of Brisebois?

I can't imagine the Canucks giving him up just to swap Holtby for Quick and taking on a small cap dump.

Quicks been the Kings franchise goalie for 14 years, we wouldn't trade him for a cap dump with little compensation and a lesser quality replacement.

Kings don't really get short or long-term value out of these trades. With Vancouver, your best bet would be cap dumps for picks but your GM isn't looking for those right now.

Kings will trade Quick for Podkolzin. Otherwise, they'll just keep him.
