My lineup

Created by: arafay
Team: 2020-21 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 6, 2021
Published: Jan. 6, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I would give this a shot at least. Let niku make his mistakes. His positioning and gap control were kinda bad last year but they should get better with more games under his belt. He can always be played with heinola instead to shelter him a bit, but he should definitely be in the lineup

**Baring any trades**

For a Roslovic trade, I’m looking for a 2ld. If the other team needs to add pieces a better 4c would be good too.

Roslo to Florida for a 2nd and Borgström is what I'd like, don't need more D unless it's a good RHD prospect but no one is trading one of those for Roslovic, a 2nd and another center would be a good get for Roslovic and is what the Jets need.

I'm pretty sure that Lewis gets signed, I'm waiting for a Perreault-Thompson-Lewis line with Toninato on the wing with Copp and Lowry.

I I haven't no, Samberg is in the second group I think and with Poolman injured Stanley was the dman they moved over to the main group, not sure what to read into that but with Maurice saying he has Niku in the top 8 does that mean Samberg is Moose bound and Heinola is too or is gonna be sent back to Finland?

Probably both going to the AHL, although Heinola will steal Nikus job c

If Heinola goes to the Moose(and stays there) does his ELC slide or no?

Honestly I think Niku would have to have an absolute fantastic breakout season to stay in the lineup on a daily basis. I know what Maurice said but he talks a good game more then anything, his history says one fu*k up from Niku will have him in the press box.

I’m not sure about Heinolas contract sliding, I think it does but I’m not 100% sure. I think they need to stop caring about that anyways, he’s good enough to play.

Idk, if they slide it another year Heinola's ELC will end the same time as Wheeler and Schiefeles contracts do.

Can’t let that stop them from icing the best team. Heinola without a doubt makes the team better.

I know I know, just thinking of the future is all plus I really really want Niku to get a chance.

I like that trade. I would then have my bottom 6 like:

Copp-Lowry-perreault
Harkins-borgstrom-appleton
Thompson
Lewis

I want him to get a chance too, but it would be on RD anyways so doesn’t really affect Heinola IMO

Heinola’s contract will slide a year if he stays in the ahl. Either way, I think he’s going to be a regular when he comes back.

As for niku, Maurice seems to like his game right now. We will have to see what he does when poolman is healthy though. That will give us the real idea.

Niku does do everything Maurice likes in his d-men though. He’s on the bigger side and he plays nasty. He the best puck mover they have and he’s good along the boards and in front of the net. However, his gap control and positioning need work. I think that as long as he’s making plays, Maurice overlooks his flaws with positioning and gap control for the time being. He will get better in that sense with more games under his belt.

How I see it, heinola’s main competition is beaulieu. Maurice knows heinola is better. He got more minutes than beaulieu as an 18 year old so imo he’s a lock if he shows up to practice playing well.

Niku’s main competition is poolman. How I see it, both have the same flaws, positioning and gap control. Poolman is better in that sense but niku moves the puck so much better. If niku can keep moving the puck, he stays in the lineup imo which is better for the jets long term tbh

Me too, he likes being in Winnipeg and not because it’s a good team with loads of talent. He likes the city. He is the only Jet that didn’t leave all year. Imo, just because of that, he’s worth at least giving a chance. In fact, I would give him all the chances he needs. He’s also not an everyday talent either. Few can move the puck that well

it’s my own thread but...how good would a heinola-niku pairing look. It’s a pipe dream and they likely get scored on a fair bit but still the offence 🤤

Play Morrissey and demelo together and Niku and Heinola together. You give Heinola and Niku all the shifts against the 3rd and 4th lines. I actually don’t think they’d be nearly as bad as you think. Heinolas positioning is elite, he’s solid defensively. Niku is big, like he got really big over the summer so that pairing would be so fun to watch. Then you have Forbort and Pionk that can play against the 2nd and 3rd line. I actually don’t mind Heinola and Niku as the 3rd pairing.

Oh, I just don’t think heinola has the strength to make up for nikus positioning and gap control issues. That’s why they woudl be bad in their own end against the rush. Other than that, that would be an excellent pairing.

Woudl love to see em together though, they could really learn a lot from each other.

Oh man imagine how much more fun this team could be to watch, a Heinola/Niku D pair, the 2015 line as the 3rd line, Ehlers-Scheifele-Laine as a 1st line, won't get any of that though, just more same old same old!.. 👎

I did find that a bit strange and Maurice explained it today that they wanted to get another look at that pairing now that Poolman has a year of experience, his strong finish to last season and that they're both healthy but eventually I'm sure they go back to Morrissey-DeMelo, Poolman had a good finish to the year cause he's a 3rd pair dman playing on the 3rd pair with a capable partner.
