Why not just put the players who deserve to be on the team.....on the team. And accept that you might lose a player, who you didn't feel was good enough to be on your roster, to waivers.
Romanov put in the work. He put in a crap ton of work. He should be rewarded for that and allowed to continue developing, not dumped onto the taxi squad.
What kind of message does this send players when a team doesn't award spots based on who actually deserves them? Imagine not just being the player who should be on the team, but isn't. But imagine being the player who shouldn't, but is. Knowing that all your teammates know that the team is not as good as it should be because you are on it. (This has been something I have been disgusted with the Leafs over for years now - not just with the waivers, but where they sign free wallets from Europe and those players are guaranteed a spot whether they deserve it or not and every prospect who has busted their ass knows what they did during the offseason and what they do in camp is completely irrelevant - great way to build a team that goes out and gives 100% every night).
