I dare add that the picks could have some conditions such as the 1st from the Bruins becomes a 2nd if Laine doesn't resign with Bruins.

That fills no needs for Winnipeg and isn't close on value, so no chance Winnipeg considers it.

What value do you think is in line for Laine's value and what is their pressing need? I mean he is an RFA next year and there is some contentious winds swirling with him and the team. Debrusk isn't the same skill level 100% but for a player that averages 20 goals a season and 40 pts at age 24 is nothing to spit at by any means. Not to mention a 1st and Bjork whom has some upside but capped at 2nd line to 3rd line winger.

It has been reported Winnipeg's ask is a young top 4 RHD with top 2 potential and a young top 6 forward. The Jets aren't likely to move Laine for a wing downgrade, a wing they don't need at all and a 1st two years from now.

Most reports I read said that the Jets were look for all levels of D help but more on the top pairing, but also some depth forward MP is a pricey bottom line option etc. Given the nature of how D men tend to develop it may be hard pressed to get a top 4 young D man for Laine (supply and demand doesn't seem to be there). Not to mention that MP, Statsny, Laine, Pionk, Lowry and others after this season are on expiring contracts. Laine will likely demand a raise, Pionk will want Josh M like money etc. So the thoughts behind the initial offer was to give the Jets the forward depth with some scoring ability in Jake and 1st round pick to help load up on assets. With the amount of money invested in Ehlers you are rounding out your forwards with Wheeler, Scheifle and Connor to shape the better half of your top 2 lines and eat up 28 million.

I am not sure I agree based on the reports of their needs and cap crunch that the offer is way off - I will agree that they have been asking for a top 4 D man but given their premium and if you want a young one with gas in the tank it could be hard to find.

That's why he almost certainly won't be traded this year. Winnipeg owns Laine's rights for 3 more years, so there is no rush and there won't be a discount. Someone will have to either pay Chevy's asking price or Laine will stay a Jet.

Fair enough - but given there smoke it depends on how much fire there is for his desire to be there. Time will tell, but I am sure those rose coloured glasses may change tune over time.
