RetoolingNextYear

Created by: SomeonesOffended
Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 21, 2021
Published: Jan. 21, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Calling it now RNH doesn’t play for the Oilers next season, might as well trade him at the deadline, Erik Johnson is getting forced out by elite young talent in Colorado but he still is a great defender doesn’t put up a ton of points but the oilers have tons of tools for that already, most importantly he helps the defensive game for this team
Turning the 3rd line into a shut down defensive line
Adding Taylor Hall cause why not? Definitely need a ufa LW to play with McDavid
New goalie duo, let’s do how Devan does this year but I think he could be a great back up for Kuemper and he’s played in Edmonton before the fans might like a familiar name

There's no way Nugent-Hopkins gets you Newhook.

?? You mean an unproven prospect that could be a dud isn’t worth 1st overall basically a point per game potential 1C depending on the team?

You mean that the Avs have no need for Nugent-Hopkins and don't need to be giving away an unproven prospect who could be a star?

We need a 3C, not another top-6 forward.

They also need to clear space to resign Makar, not having Erik Johnson on the roster helps that and RNH could definitely help a playoff run, make Kadri your 3C imagine the depth

Calvert ($2.825 million), Bellemare ($1.8 million), Saad ($5 million), Pateryn ($2.5 million), and one of Graves ($3.16 million), Compher ($3.5 million), or Donskoi ($3.9 million) coming off the books. They have the space to sign Makar, Landy, and Grubauer.

Getting EJ's contract off the books would be nice, but not for the price of Newhook.

Yeah the Avs aren’t doing that. Newhook besides being an A+ prospect his development and elc dovetail nicely with Kadri. And how does this exactly help the Avs long term with anything, in short it doesn’t it just creates more cap space problems.

It’s a deadline going for the cup move RNH could be a huge add, take newhook out and add 2021 first then it’s basically the same thing except avs fans haven’t gotten high off the prospect yet

They're already cup favorites...so why overpay at the deadline? Joe has time and time again shown that he won't do it. If there's an injury? Sure. Otherwise, it just doesn't make sense to trade for another 2C when they come at a premium.

Being a cup favourite means absolutely nothing, remember when Tampa got swept in the first round? Were the St. Louis Blues favourites? Why not make your chances even better? You get rid of a contract that needs to go and your defence is still just as strong, you’ve added elite left wing or center talent for basically a 1st, what if Mackinnon or Kadri get hurt? Sure would be nice to have a capable center to replace them, you’re so one minded just look at it from a couple different angles dude

Trading two second-round picks for Devon Toews is taking a chance at getting better. Trading away your top offensive prospect and your anchor on defense is reckless. And as I said earlier, if there's an injury? Absolutely, make a move. The Avs are set up to be a competitor for the foreseeable future though. This move jeopardizes that, especially during a year of such uncertainty because of COVID. So I'd say I am looking at this from more than just a "couple different angles," dude.
