Description
Just play a full, top to bottom 60 minutes and I guarantee you will be the team that comes out of this division. Thankfully for us, we have all our Ottawa, Vancouver and Edmonton games backloaded with some good opponents sprinkled in so it will be a great opportunity to gain momentum while still staying sharp against good teams
Tkachuk-Lindholm-Dube is a good line, no explanation necessary
Gaudreau-Monahan-Bennett line is the exact same as the Hyman-Tavares-Marner line that worked so well for Toronto. Gaudreau, Monahan and Bennett are stylistically the exact same players, but Tavares is better than Monahan at the same game. In theory it should work.
The third line can play two ways and get some scoring, as much as I’d like Mange in the top six, we need him here to get the bottom six going
Phillips-Ryan-Leivo is a line that won’t be atrocious and can produce every now and then. Exactly what a 4th line should be
Valimaki is better than Gio, he goes on the top pair
Hanifin-Tanev has been one of the most consistently great parts of this team, they stay together
Gio-Kylington is stylistically the exact same as Calgary top pair of 5 years, Gio-Brodie. Gio-Kyl is just the Walmart version. If it can just be the Walmart version of that top pair, that’s all you need from the bottom pair and more. Markstrom-Rittich is a top 5 tandem prove me wrong

I was wondering about playing Bennett higher up in another post. Seems like it's at least worth a try to maybe get his regular season game going.

Gawdin is probably closer to playing NHL games than Phillips

1. Big fan of Bennett playing higher.

2. I feel like Nesterov has been solid, and seems to be just as (if not more) comparable to Brodie as Kylington. On the other hand Kylington is younger and could use playing time alongside Gio. I guess they could split time and see who earns the spot come playoff time.

3. I think Lucic has been solid, and I'd like to see him in the lineup. I think he'd look perfect on that 4th line with the speedier Ryan and Leivo.

Yes I love those lines, Bennett deserves a shot on the top line, if he can moderate those bad penalties. Gaudreau and Monahan were very good yesterday!
Last year Gaudreau had an OK year, but Monahan was not creating chances for him. This year Monahan seems to be ready for a really good season, so is Gaudreau. Simon is a pretty good player but I think he doesn't fit well with them, neither does Leivo.

Gaudreau Monahan Bennett
Tkachuk Lindholm Dubé
Mangiapane Backlund Simon
Leivo Ryan Ritchie

for me.

On defense, it's true that the star of Giordano is starting to palish. He doesn't generate offense like he used to do. I would put him in a more defensive role.

Valimaki Andersson
Hanifin Tanev
Giordano Nesterov

Markstrom and Rittich is a very good tandem.

For the PP:
Tkachuk Monahan Gaudreau
Lindholm Andersson

Dube Backlund Bennett
Valimaki Mangiapane

I was in the Lucic hype, but now he makes a LOT of bad turnovers. He sure can smash body throught the glass, but with the faster play he's always a step too late. We need to play him some games, if we need muscles, but in a diminished role, and more to settle things down than for is offensive prowess. Ritchie could bring some of that old time Lucic on the fourth.

Yes

Yes, but I’d put Kylington in because he has long term upside whereas Nesterov is one and done with Calgary. Just a developmental move but I agree on all points

I couldn’t disagree more, Lucic has been atrocious despite his goal. Every time he touches the ice he kills momentum and more than often takes a penalty on the same shift

Yes, I saw that. You gave me the idea. It’s stylistically the exact same line as Hyman-Tavares-Marner and that worked out. I’d say that all 3 of your guys are better at their roles so a bit of a Walmart version, but it absolutely could work

I totally agree, love that PP2. PP2 needs totally revamped from what it is now. I want to see Mange in a better role, but right now he needs to help create a two way line to get the bottom six going. Maybe next year, depending on where the teams at. If they insist on having toughness on the 4 th line, I see no reason Ritchie can’t be twice as effective as Lucic, so that would make sense

Potentially, I just see more upside in Phillips, so I want to get him minutes before it’s too late. Maybe he can turn out like Mange did

Oh, cool, I thought it was just a 'great minds think alike', thing. I just think it would be really beneficial for Calgary to awaken that playoff beast inside Bennett, and maybe giving him a clear, defined, important role would help accomplish that.
