Worst Case Scenario (Which Isn't So Bad)

Created by: BombSquad
Team: 2017-18 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 7, 2016
Published: Dec. 7, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If they can't find a trade for Fleury before expansion. 1.9M of dead money through 2020

Also:
Protect List:
Crosby
Malkin
Kessel
Hornqvist
Letang
Dumoulin
Maatta
Schultz
Murray

Vegas selects Bonino and signs him to a new deal.

Dumo and Schultz get matching contracts.
Sheary gets new deal
Pouliot gets a 1 year "prove yourself" deal (similar to what Schultz got this year)
I know a lot of fans won't like this one but I have Kunitz deciding to take a hometown discount on a 1 year deal, which honestly wouldn't be a bad thing if (and this part is huge) he signs cheap.
3rd line is pure youth. But those players could move up and down the lineup at Sully's discretion.
Plug whatever one year vet into the backup goalie role that you want.

Under this format, Pittsburgh is not strapped against the cap and has some flexibility to make a mid season acquisition if needed.

I know that most fans are expecting Pittsburgh to be somewhat active in the 2017 UFA market, but I'm just trying to show that if Fleury's buyout prevents that, they still have enough in the organization to ice a quality team under the cap.

Think worst case would be losing Wilson or DP, and then Bonino walking.

Only thing I disagree with is Dumo and Schultz. They may command a bit more, and I thk Dumoulin should get more term.

Should move Fehr too and find a new 3/4C.

Ok well..

Pittsburgh isn't Kunitz's hometown, so that doesn't make sense.

A "hometown discount" could apply to a player's actual home town, but most often it means a team that a player has been with for a considerable amount of time and has found success with. At 37, Kunitz might get a 1 or even 2 year deal for more money from a team looking to add a veteran forward, but I think there's a chance that he would take considerably less money to have 1 more go in Pittsburgh. And I can understand why fans wouldn't necessarily want that given how his production has tailed off the last 2 years, but in this particular scenario (due to Fleury buyout and various other contracts that are priority) Pittsburgh does not have a lot of cap space for UFAs so a veteran who can play up and down the lineup wouldn't be such a bad thing if (of course) the price is right.

I know lol is quite overused, but I actually laughed out loud when I saw 'Veteran Backup' in the chart

Heres a problem: Vegas doesn't need to "select" Bonino if he is unsigned. They can simply sign him as a UFA. They will be drafting a different player for sure.
