Deadline Deals To Get Ovi His Cup

Created by: krakowitz
Team: 2016-17 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 8, 2016
Published: Dec. 8, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Everybody is going to say that these are ridiculous trades, and they are. But IMO these aren't far off on value, and this definitely makes Washington the overwhelming favorite for the Cup. It depletes the farm system a lot, but once the Caps have a Cup, none of that matters.
Trades
1.
ARI
  1. Bowey, Madison
  2. Eller, Lars
  3. Orpik, Brooks
  4. 2018 3rd round pick (WSH)
  5. 2019 2nd round pick (WSH)
  6. 2019 3rd round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
I hate to give up Bowey, but McClellan believes this is our last shot at a Cup. This is the all-in type of move that they need to make if they are going to be playing hockey in June.
2.
MTL
  1. Sanford, Zachary
  2. Vanecek, Vitek
  3. Wilson, Tom
  4. 2017 1st round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
Everybody is going to say that this is underpaying for Pacioretty, but actually think through it. They get depth, a top 10 goalie prospect, and a first for a guy that everybody wants out anyways. And Montreal can then flip the return from this trade to acquire some other deadline assets.

do you know how good Montreal is doing right now? why would they get rid of a top 6 forward for a bottom six forward a first and prospects dont make that justifiable.

As witnessed last year, having a dominant team (at least in points) means nothing in the playoffs. Just gotta score my goals than in than your opponent in 4 of 7 playoffs games, which for some reason the Caps didn't last spring.
And no reason to think that adding a few more pieces changes your "luck" in the playoffs, although I admit your trades on paper make the Caps better.
