Making moves

Description
The lines and Combos are all after hamonic rejoins the team and the players they traded for do their isolations for two weeks.

the Burns trade is not about that he has been playing bad but the fact that SJ needs to start adding assets to move towards a rebuild, so Lind gives them a prospect, Myers gives them a D to replace Burns at 2Mill cheaper and Virtanen adds to the value. The second round pick is to sweeten the deal to have Donato added

After trading Virtanen Gaudette seems like the next asset to be move and getting a RHD for him was key and Julis honka fit that bill, the pick from Dal is due to two reasons. 1) Gaudette has been playing and would be able to slot into the lineup and make an impact, where as Honka held out and didn't sign a contract last year and has spent all of this year on the taxi squad. 2) I have heard that Guadette would fetch more than a 1v1 swap.

the Sutter trade is about moving money out and giving him a better shot at winning. this season has been a train wreck but Sutter has been a bright spot and he deserves a chance at making a run in the playoffs. Also Carolina is where he started his career so sending he there would be nice.

all of these moves still give the canucks the money to resign Petterson and Hughes, with 26.9 in cap space

Just for clarification; Burns has not been playing bad (been really good this year so far). Idk if the sharks accept tho anyways.. if we have a “chance” at Seattle taking him they’d do that instead.

Donato has been very good.

So I do like Lind but the sharks really gain nothing here. Since I’d doubt virt is a asset gain and Myers is kinda meh with a similar contract to burns.

Burns playing good means even more so if the sharks begin a rebuild it’s easier to Seattle plus a little incentive so is Lind really worth taking 2 dumps (I know burns is going back) and losing Donato (a rfa). Idk.

I use to like Lind a lot (I still do think he’s alright) but he’s more so plateaued/ declined (did have a decent year last year tho).

See Burns and Donato are good players. Virtanen and Myers are not. This is an easy decline. The point of moving Burns is to clear real long term space on D, not take back a pilon.

SO I'll repeat my self, Burns hasn't been bad but the Sharks need to add young players Lind gives them that.

Yes Virtanen hasn't been amazing, but try playing in your home town market and having the expectations that your the next Todd Bertuzzi.

Myers is not bad he just try's to play as a TWD (two-way d) when hes not, but that's why the pick is a 2nd not a 3rd, also outside Nick Merkley they don't have anyone who could fill that role on the back end and he's not ready to be play up to 25mins a night, so its more about a body and Myers has 5 years left at age 31 to Burns 5 years at 35

also I don't that just letting burns go to Seattle for nothing would be wise, it would be better to trade him for multiple pieces that would take up his 8mill

It’s more about cap space, and utilization of that cap space. Moving burns’ 8m is a huge relief. Then if we move another contract we’ll have 10-20mil for kinda whatever we want. As a rebuilder I’d prefer to take on bad contracts for assets. As well as idk if VAN wants Burns for 5x8m seeing as that money could just go to Hughes and save money elsewhere for help. Even more so if the Sharks do move Burns to Seattle that’s not a bad thing not getting a return. It’s strategic.

I’m not hating on the trade I just don’t think VAN loves it and I don’t think the Sharks care for it.

No thanks from Carolina. Sutter was once a cane, and he was beloved, but on his deal for a good prospect in Nybeck? Pass, thanks.

No one would be better. The Canes just wouldn’t do it.
