BurkeHextall Vision Part 2

Created by: Coleharborcrosby
Team: 2021-22 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 9, 2021
Published: Feb. 9, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is obviously where it gets harder but as per my last post I am going to go with the scenario where they don`t make the semis and retool on the fly.

Malkin/Letang trades for the offseason are difficult. The idea though and the strategy for Burke and Hextall will be to trade them for picks/prospects/player and use the cap space to sign impact players. There will be significant interest in signing in Pitt this offseason.

You have to take into account the value GM`s place in leadership and playoff experience. Lets say that Barkov and Malkin are pretty similar in value at the current moment. Florida may make the move because Malkin would be able to guide the young team and provide invaluable playoff experience as Florida finally emerges as a playoff team. I think it is also more likely that Malkin is extended in Florida than it is Barkov is extended in Florida.

Malkin is much better than he is playing right now and will still be among the elite for a few more years.

Yeah he’s playing bad but you still never trade barkov for a 35 year old player. That’s asinine. He’s got 3 years tops of string play. Barkov has 10. If the panthers are trading for malkin they’re not giving up their franchise center. He’ll be a 2c on this team helping mentor young players especially denisenko.

Yes but I don`t know if those 10 years of Barkov will be in Florida. If that is the case, they should consider it. Not saying it`s a done deal, BUT I think there is a conversation to be had. Maybe there are other pieces to the puzzle as well. MP coming with him? Yandle coming back?

It is reality whether you choose to believe it or not. There is a clear value in the NHL for Stanley cup success and leadership.

The only person who thought otherwise was Kyle Dubas and now he has reversed course on that.

And still risk malkin leaving in a year. If panthers trade Barkov it will turn into a rebuild and they’ll get a top prospect and some picks. Not trading for an aging malkin. I want the panthers to trade for malkin. He’ll be great on the 2c part mentoring denisenko. But the trade will be a first and a second next year plus a b prospect and someone like stralman for cap reasons. And they might get something else but you’re not getting a huge return on him anymore.

Sure. I still think there is a deal but I think it would be more than that. A 1st, 2nd and a top prospect. Spencer Knight is probably going to need to be involved. He has not been a fit there ever since Bob signed that massive deal. No one is taking that deal and no one is buying him out.

Malkin and Desmith for Knight, Yandle and a 1st.

Also, part of negotiations would include a discussion about the future. I am sure Malkin would be alright with signing another deal in Florida. He would first need to approve the trade and I think if he had a decent year there then he would resign.

I do agree with knight but I think he’s too valuable to trade. With the way bob is playing I can’t see him lasting the whole term of his contract. Guess we’ll see but malkin to fla makes too much sense for the right cost

The issue is I don`t think any team is taking Bobs contract whether he improves his play or not. He is going to be there so the focus should be getting him back to a place where he is playing at a high level again. I think that is still possible.

But yes, I agree. There is a trade to be made.

The difference between each player is miles different. And it has nothing do with skill. One is 10 years younger and is hitting his prime. One is coming up to the part of his career where he is still valuable but never be what he was. You dont offer a 35 year old a 8 year 10 mil contact. The trade is beyond insane on a one for one. I wouldn’t do Crosby for barkov one for one. Cause like I said above age.

That's great and all. But that one that is 10 years older is still putting up more points...see last year and both contracts end next year to being UFA.
As I said. You think you are giving up control. You aren't. He's a UFA, he'll go where he wants. You're unwillingness to recognize he's basically a rental is astounding.
Which is why you and everyone else sure as hell would do Crosby one for one.

Come tell me about it when your 10 year younger guy is under contract for 8 years.
    But he's not.
And that is where your logic totally falls apart.

I agree. I think he’ll be bought out in two years. Once the league is back up and running like normal again.

Same with malkin. Rumors are he may head to Russia. So it works both ways. And how about you come back when malkin is traded for something far far lesser than what you think you’ll get for him.

1 rental for another rental isn't fair. Especially when the rental you under value is the better player?

Malkin isn't going back to the KHL any time soon. Forget about that. He came to the NHL because he wanted to play with the best in the world. Which he will continue to do until he is ready to retire.

So why did he say he would like to finish his career in Russia? I mean maybe he’ll be jagrs age but I doubt that. Again at this time they’re both very similar on point producing where one is much much better defensively and more valuable.

why did a player from Russia say he'd like to finish his career in Russia.
    tears of joy
Yeah he'll be there when he's like 38 or 40 and done in the NHL. Collecting those few extra million to sell tickets.

who knows, I'm not putting a date on it. But he makes way more money here than in the KHL. Even the highest contracts in the KHL are not that good. So he's sure ain't leaving yet.
