Description
Pretty clear Pens are going for it for one more year. Burke and Hextall are clear in what they want to do with this team.

A Bennett trade seems very likely. His value isn`t high. A 2nd plus an Alberta guy who plays RW could get it done. If a prospect or another player like Riikola is required then so be it but I don`t think it`s off by much.

MP for TD. TD is the superior player. Burke has said the only way to trade for him is if you trust the leadership group to take him in and force him to play into a strong culture. Sidney Crosby and the Penguins are the people to do that. If they retain I would do this trade. I would probably do it without retention but the Pens are the ones with leverage. Make it happen. Pair him with Dumo to keep him in line and allow him to flourish offensively.

I don`t know if there is anything true about the Gibson rumors but if there is something there then go for it. Some of the trades on here for a 1st, Guentzel, Marino + are ridiculous. Yes, he is a great goalie but the trade value for goalies are not high. Letang, becomes their best player. Jarry is still a really good young goalie and we throw in a pick on top of it all. Also take back a contract in Backes who won`t crack a full healthy lineup. *IF* the Ducks are entertaining a trade for Gibson then I think this is more what it would look like. Also for anyone saying Letang does not have value then don`t both commenting. He is still an elite defenceman and will remain so for many years.

No we do not, how many times does this have to be said, buying out DeAngelo only costs 300k. Not worth retaining half his salary and Rangers dont need a defesnemen on a 5 year contract blocking their prospects

What good prospects do you have that plays left side besides K’Andre Miller? Schneider is right, and Lundkvist is right also.

Tarmo Reunanen, although not known well could have easily made the team this season and Zac Jones is a big question mark. But the bigger problem is that bring in Petterson means that either Lindgren, Miller or himself has to play on the third pair. And considering the way the lines are set he would be on the third pair so its not worth it paying 4M for a player that will be glued to the 3rd pair.

Does it make sense to pay a player even more money to not play at all

Also none of those guys are anything close to MP...

You have to pay for retention though.

Another option then is to trade MP for futures and then get DeAngelo for something else.

I don't think that you understand the difference between a player signed for 6 years after this season (Gibson) versus 1 year after this season (Letang).

This trade would obviously only happen if Letang wanted to go to the Ducks and would sign an extension.

no you don't. If you want TD just wait you'll get him for nothing soon.
The best option is to just not trade MP. How's that for starters. MP is fine. He's not the problem and moving him doesn't help the team.
They need to move Matheson eventually. That's the real issue.

If Matheson plays the way he has in the past couple games I would much rather have him than MP.

Give it 10 games.

Already it is Matheson on 2nd pair and MP on 3rd.

I think Matheson is a decent player. But it's not the player it's the contract. Given he can also bottom out, you move it.
