Maybe in the offseason, but yeah Mayfield to Vancouver is something I've thought was a good idea for awhile. I don't mean to sound like I'm having my cake and eating it too, but unless we're getting a really big piece later, I think Mayfield is a piece we have to hold onto through this season and then maybe look to replace him during the offseason

Czarnik got scratched after one game too smirk

And yeah, I get that concern. I think it would be a mistake for anyone to acquire Virtanen thinking he is going to live up to the expectations of a 6th overall pick, but he's physical, which we know will fly here and a lot of high danger chances 5v5 last season, which we could always use more of.

Something is rotten with him and Vancouver and it's clearly having an effect on his play. I don't always like the "he needs a change of scenery" bit, but we've seen the player Virtanen can be, as recently as last season and I think he could fit in really well here

Good points, he definitely has good physical tools, he just has terrible hockey IQ.

I agree with trading bellows with the way they’re handling him. He’s going to get selected in expansion draft anyways, might as well get something for him. I would trade him for nick cousins , lower cap hit than virtanen and has really good underlying numbers. Great in transition.

Nick Cousins is an interesting one too, less of a name but a more established talent for sure. I don't think he has the offensive upside that Virtanen does, which is some of the appeal to Virtanen for me. But he'd be a good depth add that I think would fit really well in the bottom 6 (imagine if Martin was on a 1 year deal like he should be and Cousins was a guy we could target to replace him at 4LW at the deadline or in the offseason....)

Yeah I still can’t believe Martin got that contract. We have two guys (czarnik+ koivula) that can be more effective on the 4th line than Martin.

Speaking of offensive upside, MDC has been one of our better players since joining the 2nd line. High danger chances are 10-1 with him on the ice the last few games and he leads all forwards in on-ice xgoals% (61.8%)!.
