I'm far from being an expert on this matter, but I don't know if I deem this "cancelled". Sounds like he is taking a leave out of fear for his family's safety.

Hard to tell how North America will react to these accusations. I suppose it's all politics. As for getting his family out of Russia, obviously he's not flying over there for fear of being arrested. But I suppose he's got to step out of the bubble to arrange his family's exodus from Russia. Hopefully he'll be allowed back in the bubble when he's ready to return.
