Much more than you'd want to, I reckon. That wouldn't get it done for Forsberg without the retention. If you take out Kerfoot (who NSH doesn't really want), it more or less parallels the return LA got for Muzzin. That would be about the ballpark for an Ekholm trade. Forsberg won't come that cheap.

I disagree with that, but TOR fans seem really reluctant to part with anyone of the pieces it would take. Their cap situation complicates things a lot too, because they can't swing any deal without dumping role players NSH doesn't want (Kerfoot, Engvall, Dermott, etc), and that drives the price up even more. Catch-22.

That's not it. There needs to be some A/A+ value piece(s) for NSH to agree to the kind of retention TOR needs. An endless buffet of medium assets doesn't help.

I'd rather not have Kerfoot at all, personally but I get that TOR needs to shed cap. But yeah, someone like Sandin or Robertson needs to come back if they want a star player at 50% retention. A single 1st and a bunch of prospects with bottom half of the roster upside like Hållander and Niemelä aren't going to get it done.

3M for 1.5 years is massive in the NHL right now, especially for a team like Toronto. Getting rid of 6.25M of cap from Marleau cost Toronto a first and that was before the cap froze for years.

I think you are looking at Kerfoot (cap dump who I think needs to be included for any deal to work for Toronto, unless they use a third team to further retain on Forsberg's salary, or take Kerfoot), Sandin (or Liljegren, or Robertson - Nashville's choice among the 3), plus a 1st, plus a 2nd or 3rd round prospect.
