Theoretically Johnson

Created by: SlickWilly

Initial Creation Date: Mar. 12, 2021
Published: Mar. 12, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
dont need to trade to make room for dead cap, even if we want to add a nice center like Johnson or Danault.
Strome is on LTIR because he gets traded I just dont know where and for what
Might be undervaluing the Suter contract and overvaluing Nylander, either way they probably cancel each other out.
Of course, only happens if they think Toews isn't coming back. Johnson would be a good way to capitalize on cap space and add a capable 2/3C depending on where we need him

Tampa wouldn't give up a 1st for Johnson last season. I don't think they will give up a 1st with another year knocked off of that contract.

Its not only for Johnson, its also for Janmark, who has produced just as well as he has this year. They are getting rid of the contract for the future when Kuch comes back without getting rid of the production

Ok but Kucherov won't be back during the regular season and once the regular is done there is no more salary cap so they have until the start of next season to move his contract and if they are going to make another run at the cup I think they'd want Johnson for that.

I know Johnson is probably the ideal case, but I think Janmark plays a more "playoff style" hockey anyway, so in the cup run they aren't really losing anything making the swap. Also I took this idea from a Lightning thread so they think its a pretty decent trade as well, for what that's worth

Johnson was willing to waive his NTC in the offseason, I think he'd be less likely to do it now

I think they could still do the waivers thing, where they waive Johnson and then make the trade just Janmark for the picks. I dont know how that affects morale though. If anything you can convince him on the opportunity he would have in CHI

This makes more sense if its a DeHaan Murphy or Zadorov coming back instead of janmark

It would take a boatload to get Murphy in return, and your left side is pretty set so you wouldnt need a De haan or Zadorov. Janmark is producing at the same rate as Johnson is, so the idea is you arent detracting from the forward core for a playoff run while dumping the future contract.

I get it but both DeHaan and Zadorov have regularly played the right side before and if TB needs a replacement forwards no problem.

thats fair. I just took this idea from a Lightning thread just to see what it would look like on the Hawks side of things

Imo a cheaper version of TJ isn't really a pressing need even if he's going. That solid guy playing the right side would be more beneficial
