Let's Start The Rebuild

Created by: krakowitz
Team: 2017-18 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 26, 2016
Published: Dec. 26, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trade 1- Anaheim still is in need of wing depth, and they've been rumored to have interest in Nyquist. Usually the rumors have the Ducks shipping Fowler to Detroit, but if the Red Wings are going to rebuild the right way, a young, talented winger like Jones makes a lot more sense.

Trade 2- Calgary either makes a trade for Jimmy Howard or Marc-Andre Fleury. If Calgary doesn't want to part with a defensman (which is what Pittsburgh is reportedly asking for), they'd trade for Howard, who is playing better than Fleury right now, although it probably won't last.

Trade 3- The Kings are just like the Ducks in that they need some serious scoring depth. Vanek is on a great contract, and Jurco could provide a little bit of upside, though not much. Vanek's production to this point is what makes the Kings give up a first round pick, which should be in the 20s.

Trade 4- The Oilers truly believe that they are contenders in a weak Pacific division. Since they still need a guy to push the play from the right side, Green is a good choice for them. While he isn't the player that he was with the Caps, he is still an upgrade over who they have on the right side right now.

Trade 5- Montreal is going to go all in this year. Adding a 20 goal scorer and a top 4/top 6 defenseman would help their chances a lot. Kronwall and Tatar would make sense for the Canadiens to take and for the Red Wings to give up. They get two good prospects in the deal.

Trade 6- Isn't listed their, since it only involves draft picks. The Red Wings package some of the picks they got in the earlier trades for another top 10 pick. Gabriel Vilardi is the guy that they want, but they can't move up enough to take him. Since they took Timothy Liljegren with their pick (second overall), they take a center this time around. Maxime Comtois is kind of like Pierre-Luc Dubois in the sense that he played wing in junior, but can make the transition into a center.

Like the trades except for Howard. Flames can spend 5.2m on a goalie without giving up a first rounder. With all that cap room, maybe just keep Green and trade him at the TDL in 2018. Look of consensus that a lot of first rounders are NHL players next season. Only two this year, three the year before,.

Two this year? Matthews, Laine, Puljujarvi, Chychrun, Tkachuk. That's 5. Maybe I'm not understanding what you're saying...?

I'm cool with the Anaheim trade but I think the reason Fowler is usually included is because Anaheim would have to send cap hit back to Detroit to make it work. Does Tatar fit better under this scenario?

That's Krako. You're right. Though maybe it's four with Puljujari being sent down I believe.

I am from the school of thought that there is no way Detroit can trade Hank or Kronner even if someone wanted them, if they decide to hang it up before those contracts end they are going to get hit bigly with the cap recapture fees. If they are on the roster they can at least LTIR them when the time comes. Not many people have taken the time and tried to go out 3-5 years and see for themselves just how big of a mess Kenny has done with this roster, think lottery picks are in their future for 4-6 years even if they fight it, it is a complete mess. Should never have signed Nielsen, overpaid and over termed on both Abby and Helm then throw in Hank, Kronner, and Big E he just royally screwed the pooch.

Even if we retained 50% on Howard, That's $2.65 million for the next 2 years, There's no way we get a 4th and 1st for him. That's wishful thinking. And if Holland is willing to retain $3 million on Mike Green we should be able to get more then just Slepychev+3rd rounder look at what Yandle got. No way does Holland retain $3 million on Green without a 1st coming back. Most of these trades aren't bad. But with his bad knees we aren't trading Kronwall that's crazy talk he's a cap recapture penalty risk he only has 2 years left and i doubt Holland retains close to half of his salary to trade him for 2 years.

Only problem for Tatar is that he will be seeking a big pay raise next summer, Some are suggesting that he could get a 5 or 6 year deal at around $4.5 million per even with his bad season and all he's still an RFA for 1 more season so he will still get big money here. Doubt that's what Murray will be seeking.
