Rebuild in Full Swing

Description
Trying to be realistic with trades:

Deal with EDM - Green is more than a rental and a player EDM can really use as they make a push to become a Stanley Cup contender over the next 18 months.

Deal with CGY - Elliott hasn't been the answer. The combo of Howard and Johnson can solidify the position and help them take that next step. DET would need to retain salary as no one wants Howard at his full contract.

Deal with ANA - Gives them the scoring winger they've wanted for years. Rather than Fowler which most believe would be the key piece in a deal like this, Wings look to the future and take the younger, RHD Montour along with a 2nd Round Pick.

Deal with TOR - Take on Laich's contract in order to get the 2nd Round Pick. Babcock gets two familiar faces, Sheahan is someone he can trust in his bottom six and Smith for depth options on D as TOR makes a realistic push for the playoffs this season.

Deal with CBJ - Another scoring option as they make a cup run. DET gives up the 2nd Rounder from the ANA deal to get a quality scoring prospect in return.

Doubt Edmonton would really want to trade a first rounder for a declining Mike Green. Calgary would never do that deal...Elliott is way better than Howard is now. Toronto makes out like bandits in that deal.

I think you guys are wrong here, he is actually having a major rebound. He's a clear missing piece on the EDM blueline. Regardless, the Wings would likely be willing to hold onto maybe $2,000,000 as they will have the cap space if they're going for a true rebuild.

Okay then who do the oilers protect? I'd rather protect both Larsson and kleffbom then keep green an lose one of them to the expansion draft?

EDM would be in great shape for the expansion. They don't have to protect McDavid or Nurse, so they would likely go the 8 skaters and 1 goalie route rather than the 7 forwards, 3 defense and 1 goalie option.

Projection of Protected Players. 4 Forwards - Eberle, Draisaitl, Lucic and Nugent-Hopkins, 4 D - Kelfbom, Sekera, Green and Larsson and the G is obviously Talbot

The best players they would leave exposed are Pouliot, Maroon, Kassian, Letestu and Pitlick. Not a big deal if they loose one of them.

Green: Folks are right, that having Green this year does present, expansion list problems especially if a team gives up "a lot" for him. If the Wings are really in rebuild mode, they shouldn't really about the return for Green, but happy to get rid of 6m to spend elsewhere next season. therefore not taking any bad money back in the trade. If not traded this year, Green might have trade value at TDL 2018.
Laich and his contract is insignificant to the Leafs. Leafs are carrying his 3.6m cap hit this year only. And Sheahan? His six assists in 35 games, couldn't make the Leafs roster and who would the Leafs send to the AHL? And he still is 2.1 m cap hit next year....Rather keep Laich and the the second rounder. Smith: Reilly, Gardiner, Hunwick, Marincin are on the Leafs LHD, no real room for Smith. And Marincin has to be kept for expansion purposes.

Not this season. I believe Howard's G.AA is under 2. 1.96 G.AA & .934 Sv% in 17 games to be exact.
