Deadline Theory - Roast Me

Description
I don't think these deals are outrageous.

I think Pettersson gets moved, though I don't know where he'll end up. I think this is low value for him, but I think it's realistic.

Pitt retains prospects, stays cap controlled and adds grit.

What's he worth? A 4th Rounder? This obviously makes things better for Pitt which is the goal.

Once again, this is better for Pitt which is great. Achieves the goal of preparing for the future while creating solutions in the present.

What team do you think would pay two 2nd Rounders?

Lastly, do you think these trades create solutions for Pittsburgh's needs?

Wings are going to get at least a 3rd for LGD, so if you switch that then from a wings side we are happy people

Right on, that's what I was trying to measure. I see him as a 3rd/4th round value so that makes sense.

There is so much interest in him and he has the best faceoff percentage in the league plus his low salary, I'd be shocked if he didn't get at least a 3rd. It's fair and not overvaluing him

I completely agree, he's one of the best bottom 6 forwards in the league. I've wanted Pittsburgh to acquire him for years.

Glendening is so limited offensively I see his return around the same as Nick Cousins from last season which was a 4th. You can hype up his defensive play as much as you want but he is a UFA on the wrong side of 30. GM's aren't going to rush in and waste assets on that.
Virtanen is too much of a gamble to trade for. He makes a good bit more in actual salary next year than his cap hit shows, so teams probably aren't lining up to pay bigger dollars for a project like that. Plus, as a contending team you are better off getting something more proven to place into the lineup.
Also, I don't see Pettersson as a mid season trade. The amount of injuries we have had leaves me to believe that no one on that D is getting moved.

they won't move MP.

They don't trust POJ there. He was getting benched at the end of his stint.

Yea, Pitt is definitely in a rough spot.

If they were going to add, what do you think their approach would be?

I think people are looking at their adding the wrong way.
They have 2 top lines if healthy.
They have a 3rd line, it's just not the line all of us want as a 3rd line. But they are playing 15 minutes a night and doing well enough. They might not be scoring but they are still outscoring the other team when out there.

What they need is a 8-10 minute a night line that can be a two way line. I don't see them spending big to get it. They simply aren't playing enough minutes to.
McCann is there, out of place and everyone knows it because he's a good offensive player but can be a two way guy. They should sit Jankowski and play Gaudreau and then they got one winger spot open for whoever can fil lit. And frankly, I don't see them looking to far for that.
Their defense is set. No need to change it. Jarry plays well and they have a decent team. Not great decent.

That "3rd" line just isn't going to get enough minutes to justify what fans want and I think they know it. Because to give them minutes means giving the "4th" line less. But why, when they are so good.

Burke and Hextall have basically said they want to add a physical bottom 6 player. I think Glendening is on their radar and wouldn't be shocked if they picked him up. I think Bobby Ryan is too, because of the familiarity with Burke.

They have come out and said Legare and Poulin are off the table, so that basically eliminates a lot of younger high end talent to pick up. I think they just add a more physical bottom six guy.

Yea, that's exactly how I reached this as a potential option.

Maybe Virtanen isn't the best choice, but I think Detroit would get more by doing two seperate deals for Glendening and Ryan. Not sure what to expect but either option doesn't seem wildly off base.

Kings or senators might pay 2nd rounders. This is what the pens are looking for. The pens should change the lines to

POJ-Letang
Dumo-Marino
Matheson-Ceci

Marino has to play better and I think pairing him with dumo is a good idea.

Curious how you came to that evaluation. Who did you use as a comp? Toews?

I have to think he's worth a bit less than that. But even it it was 2 - 3rds, Pitt could gain assets to improve today and for the future.
