Edmonton 17- 18

Created by: KPasty
Team: 2017-18 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 1, 2017
Published: Jan. 2, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trade 1: Bad contract for Bad contract, gives Edmonton an established backup behind Talbot with Playoff experience. Islanders take the deal most likely cause it saves them a total of $1.875M if they option him to the AHL as opposed to the $1M they'd save by having Halak in the Minors.

Trade 2: Tyson Barrie a good D man on a decent contract in Colorado. The ask a young Dman and Nurse probably fits the bill, but straight up doesn't get him so add another good young player in Caggiula throw in a second and get a 5th in Return. I think the valuation is pretty close? Let me know what you think value wise.

Probably lose Pouliot to Expansion

Top 4 D looks pretty good and Goaltending is solid. Forwards still scary good. This team could do damage.

Halak's contract comes off the books year end and you could probably trade Nuge at the deadline and really it leaves ample room to give Connor that big contract we know hes gonna get.

But that's my opinion.

I'd say that fair value but I think I'd rather have nuge traded then drake tbh. He's a 6,00,000$ third line centre when Leon takes over second line and drake has quite a bit of upside but I think the oilers value Darnell to much to trade him. But I do like having halak as a back up

If that's what barrie is going to cost I'd pass. Nurse has the potential to be one of the leagues better defensemen and the oilers did lots of work to get the drake and to trade him after just one season doesnt do much work to help get other young players. Faulk might cost less and he is a better defender imo.

Agreed he has offence in him and defence where as Barrie is very much a defencive liability

If Edmonton wanted Halak as a backup why did they let him Go through waivers?

Something that bothers me about some of these post-expansion rosters is when people think that they can use the Expansion Draft as a means to get rid of their bad contracts. Pouliot has only 7 points in 33 games, hardly throws any hits and turns the puck over quite a bit more than he should be. He's got some upsides but not enough to warrant that 4mil cap. Vegas would be better going for Davidson or Simpson or Oesterle or even Reinhart for that matter, or if they wanted forwards than Khaira or Lander or even Letestu - and if Oilers go the 8FD route than Vegas could nab Pitlick or Maroon.

well we don't know if they actually want him but i think they would want to move someone before taking on his contract.

Well said BStone. Vegas has promised a cup in 5 years, however unlikely that is, they still need to be competitive and their GM doesn't like bad contracts so Pouliot isn't going anywhere.
    BStone67 liked this.
