Man, I think youre really going a little overboard with how desperate teams are to shed cap.
    1. Oilers fans weren't even willing to give up Carter Savoie to shed Neal's contract, I doubt Holland is willing to give up Holloway and a first. You're trying to market Strome as something he isn't. He can barely play top 6 as a center, hes not a top 6 caliber forward on the wing. Hes a poor mans RNH who is less valuable than even Kahun playing on the wing.
    2. Personally, I dont hate the valuation of Carl Soderberg, hes super cheap and hes played incredible this year for what we expected. I think his value is around a late 3rd early 4th rn which isnt bad.
    3. Nobody is giving up a second and a third for Mattias Janmark, I agree we should trade him, but this is illogical, Janmark is an expiring contract who has some of the worst advanced analytics on the team. He was the trigger man for Kane to start the season and its inflated his goal totals. I think some team might be willing to pony up a second round pick, but asking for a 2nd and a 3rd is insane.
    4. Loui Eriksson's contract is up after next year, its not that far away from being off their team altogether. It would be very Benning to make a move like this only getting Wallmark, a player who usually isn't in OUR lineup, but I think even he'd feel weird essentially gifting us a free first round pick.
    5. Zadorov for a second feels ambitious, Id rather get a prospect for Nikita than a pick, but I do like that you recognize that one of our left handed d has to go. Beaudin needs to be in the NHL lineup (and playing on the left side) every night.
    6. Once again, getting a second and a third just to take on the Byron contract is SUPER optimistic. I doubt we get that haul if we trade to get him.
    7. Arizona would probably just keep Kessel if they're the ones dropping assets in an already barren pool of draft capital.

All in all, if you tone down the return for each of these deals, it makes more sense. These seem like what Chicago start with to be optimistic, but I doubt anyone gives them THIS much for any of these trades, even if they shed salary, because whats the point of shedding salary if youre sacrificing the assets you would need to actually trade for deadline improvements.

I truly like this convo. I hope I'm not coming across mean. Went back and re-read a few things, apologies if I am.

I agree with you. Staal still costs $1.625M even after retention. The $1M cap hit might drive up the price for a team up against the cap. I'm not saying it HAS to be PIT that makes the trade. I do think he'll get a 3rd though.

You aren't coming across mean. It's ok to disagree with people. I'm going to guess he goes for a 5th or 6th if he's traded. Let's revisit this in a few weeks.

Conversely, what's the point in taking on contracts WITH MULTIPLE YEARS on it without getting something of value. Byron's got 2 MORE years. I'm NOT ok with just a 2nd for taking on multiple years of junk. He's not an NHL caliber player. I don't need MTL fans to chime in and say BUT FOR YOU...he could be a decent 4th liner. He's not for US, but for the hawks!!! Yeah, I'm not buying that nonsense.
