If the Rangers wanted Gaudreau (and they don't), they would simply wait the extra year for him to hit Free Agency. No reason to panic and give up a #2 Overall Pick (with a year still left on his ELC) for a possible rental just because he is still finding his game.

Easy decline from Buffalo
No interest in Monahan- he’d be too old for the rebuild we’d be in if we trade Eichel
None of the other players are high end enough
Calgary doesn’t have the pieces to get him unless they built a package around Tkachuk- and even then it could be beat by a team like LA who can offer a top Center prospect
