This doesn’t make sense for Buffalo
1- Hall starts with a 1st, esp if we are retaining
2- Kassian is a cap dump, so add an asset for him
3- not Kahun- we chose not to qualify him last year
4- Lagesson? Meh. No value
1 year of Marleau cost the Leafs a 1st
So you’re gonna have to give up a 1st for us to take Kassian
And a 1st to get Hall
You’re welcome to Lazar for free. He’s ok, but doesn’t really have value unless we wanna nitpick you for a 6th
1. Hall is being moved to get something back.. Buffalo will have no choice but to retain they already are paying the full contract, so it is not a big deal to them. He won't get a 1st. No way in Hell, you'll see soon enough.
2. Kassian is not a cap dump (he is not Neal) and Edm is retaining some of the cap hit and he brings a few uncommon elements that GMs covet and has 3 years left, which has a lot more value than you acknowledge. Plus he is playing his best hockey in over 14 months, so he is not a dud.
3. Kahun is a very skilled winger who should play on a 3rd line, where he is very effective. He has value on a roster where a coach actually knows how to use him. He is Draisaitl's best friend, but that doesn't mean they should play together. If he is placed in positions to succeed as he was in Chi and Pitt he will do well.
4. Lagesson is getting Playing Time over Caleb Jones, which means the vet NHL coach trusts him a lot. He is not sexy, but he has value and adds toughness, like Kassian, which Buf lacks. That has value.
Marleau has 6 points in 35 game and only 2 goals (just like Hall). His value is far less than it used to be. In the NHL you pay a premium for goal scoring, Center men and right handed Dmen. None of these guys are that, so none of these players will yield a 1st rounder.
Plus with Hall being in control due to his NMC, he is in control and that all reduces the cost somewhat.
