Maybe that is fair, but not with a first. There may be some discussions whether we might send a regular second or a second in a deep 2023 draft if Gusev becomes a stud in Saint Paul and will resign. Hope that NJD bounces back in the foreseeable future ; )

Yes, it's about what he's done lately. The team getting him is only getting like15-20 games out of him. This isn't a 23yo on a cheap deal with team control we're talking about. It's a 28yo rental that's had a bad year and has a big cap hit.

AA didn't get claimed so I don't think Gusev will.

Once he passes though waivers he'll be easier to trade for NJD. Retain half, take back bad cap, and he can be sent to the taxi squad and a team can and some team will take a chance on him.
