Description

This is my dream insurance trade:
1. Palmieri - Let's assume that Calvert has a concussion / cannot be counted on in the playoff's (he would take Compher's spot if healthy) - adds depth to a deep line-up
2. Vatanen - Good 6th D - gives options if Byram is hurt / MacDonald is not quite up for playoff hockey / Johnson does not come back (which is assumed)
3. Dell - Cheap option in case of injury

NJ gets a low first, good D prospect with financial control and a B forward prospect and does not have to retain any salary.

I think they can get more for a similar pkg with Bos or NYI

They ain't getting more for a package like this, I'll take out Mutala and still do the deal

This deal allows NJ to shed salary and take back minimal salary. Any deal with Bos/NYI, they would have to take back salary. NYI has no cap space, so salary in, salary out. Boston is in a similar situation, with under $1.3M. It looks like Eric Johnson is out for the rest of the regular season, which gives Colorado a lot of cap space to play with.

If NJ can get a better deal with salary being swapped, so be it.

I think the deal is fine, just if there were a choice of B/C prospects, Mutala would probably not be the guy I'd pick.
But yes, deal looks good.
