The deals with the Leafs is not fair. I don't get to see him play much, but statistically, Maatta only has 3 assists I think, and he has regressed points-wise this year as far as his involvement in the Pens offence.
Maatta may be a pretty good young D, but I don't understand why you have the Leafs also giving the Pens a 2nd rd pick. We don't want E. Fehr, except to take back salary to make a trade work.
Pens would defintely have to give more for JVR.

Fehr has nothing to do with making the money work , he's a straight up cap dump, as Maatta and JVR makes almost the same money, and Maatta would be playing 2nd or 3rd pairing minutes based on who you think is better between him and Gardiner. Either way they would need to move one of them for an improvement on the right side as Babcock loves his balance.

Maatta isn't going to blow you away by stats by there is a reason the guy is a plus 47 for his career.. He's a top 4 dman who is easily gonna be a top 2 and look at his contract. 4 million for 6 more years, not to mention he is 22. Think you are underestimating his value

And I just added fehr into it just as a cap dump, pens could trade him anywhere just figured to add him into the trade to make it easier.. He adds zero value. So it's basically JVR + 2nd for Maatta + 3rd

I agree with your point on Fehr and the 2nd going to the pens. I think if the pens wanted to move out a contract like fehrs then they should be dishing out the 2nd rounder and the leafs should not be required to send picks the other way. I also agree with your point on Maatta about how he's regressed point wise, however he is still young and still has time to develop plus he played junior in London so I think Mark Hunter would be all over this guy. But if I were the leafs I would try to be getting a young RHD shot like Trouba instead since they have Gardiner and Reilly, but I imagine the price on trouba would be significantly higher than Maatas at the moment.
