Conservative Avs at the TDL

Created by: Stazz21
Team: 2016-17 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 8, 2017
Published: Jan. 8, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I don't think the Avs should panic and trade any core pieces. Just ship the vets off that can get some mid/low picks back. If you can find a taker for Mitchell, Wiercioch, R. Bourque, Gelinas ,or Grigorenko, great.

A note on the trades I did include: Avs will retain whatever they have to to maximize the pick.

-Iggy to LA makes some sense as they are always a contender and maybe he gets them over. Avs take Purcell or another cap dump back to make it work and maximize that pick.

-Beach to OTT just cuz an OTT reporter rumored today that the Sens might be interested and they are in the mix for the playoffs currently.

-Tyutin to WSH cuz they might want to shore up their lower pairs for a Cup run.

This sets the Avs up to give their young prospects like Greer, Compher, and Bigras, an extended taste for the remainder of the year. Then over the summer they can re-tool with added cap space for another wave of a youth movement.

The Avs should be respectful to Iginla. Avs aren't making the playoffs, and if Jerome gives the Avs a list of teams to be traded to (it might be short list), the Avs should comply with his wishes and not worry so much about the return. You might just score more future "brownie points" with agents and players in the future if you treat Iginla with the respect he deserves.

And to follow up with what I'd like to see over the off-season and pre-season:

-Find a lateral move for Tyson Barrie: a more well-rounded defenseman, but similar age. Hamonic comes to mind.

-Hope like hell Vegas takes Soderberg in the expansion draft.

-Hopefully draft Nolan Patrick who should immediately make the top6 better.

-Give Tyson Jost an extended look for the top9.

-Remove the Captaincy from Landeskog and see who earns it through the first half of the season.

-See which goalie figures their **** out. Seriously, neither of them can possibly be this bad.

-Extend Nieto. I think he's a good addition to our bottom 6.

So, that would leave us with a top9 of MacKinnon, Rantanen, Duchene, Landeskog, Patrick, Jost, Greer, Compher, Comeau/Nieto.

And a top4 D of: Johnson, Zadorov, Barrie or Hamonic-type, Bigras.

It's a young team and will have a tough season, but there's a lot of potential.

Yeah, I totally agree with that. I'm willing to trade Iggy to any team he wants as long as they'll throw a 2nd or 3rd our way. And we're happy to retain the max 50%. Let Iggy control his fate pretty much. I'd love to see him lift a cup.

Nolan Patrick and his lack of playing time due to injury looks like a long shot to be a Avs next year and maybe even the next

You think a 40-year-old guy on pace for an 11-goal, 23-point season is worth a 2/3? They should take a conditional 5th and let Iggy get a shot at a Cup.
