Description

I want the Sharks to trade Donato today. Here's why:

First off I think Donato has actually been pretty solid for us, I don't want to trade him because he's been bad. The problem I have comes in how he fits organizationally and the expansion draft as well.

Donato has been the most valuable on the powerplay, but has been slightly-below average in his play driving and general 5 v. 5 play. I don't think this is an inherently bad thing considering our poor powerplay, but for a team that already struggles a bit to score at even strength, I don't think that's ideal. Donato has been putting up points, but he hasn't been a natural goal scorer which is kind of his claim to fame. I'd rather cash in on him now and see guys like Gregor, Blichfeld, True or Chmelevski get a chance in the future.

In terms of Seattle, as of now, we will have to leave one of Gambrell, Balcers or Donato exposed. People might disagree, but out of the three I'm keeping Gamby and Rudy. If we can limit the number of other good players for the Kraken to take, we might be able to entice them to take Burns (even if it requires compensation). I just think trading him now is better asset management even if they don't take Burns.

Additionally, I think we could get a 2nd out of Donato if we trade him now with retention. He would be a decent add for a team in need of a middle-6 guy to bolster the PP and contribute for less than a million. Long-term I just don't see his upside improving drastically compared to what it is now.

But I dunno, let me know your thoughts.

Alright hear me out: Sharks get a late 2nd back for Donato and a small cap dump in Holden. Vegas gets someone who will help their powerplay, which has struggled, and they save 750k as well.

NOTE: This could be anywhere else as well. Bottom line is we're getting a 2nd for Donato if we're trading him. Just thought this trade was a decent fit.

Of course Vegas just traded their 2nd just to spite me.

Maybe it’s just me and you - but I truly think we need to sell Donato today. I’d rather protect Gambrell and Balcers. So I very much agree a Donato trade would be a blessing in disguise. He’s got value and he’s cheap. I’d rather move forward with a nice depth center and a guy who’s worked.

Phew okay I'm glad it isn't just me. Would be really nice to get some value out of Donato while we still can without risking losing him in the ED. We could always trade him in the offseason as well but I think he has more value now.

Yeah I feel bad for being so cutthroat and hasty to trade Donato (and Burns too for that matter), but sometimes you gotta do whatcha gotta do :\

We should trade donato. But I have a gut feeling this next 35 minutes something might happen. I’m looking at banker or Hertl.

Ooh alright I like the speculation. Not sure how much other teams will be interested, but Bancer or Hertl would have some massive returns coming back. We'd love to see it
