Description
Another day, another horrible effort from the blue and orange. To be fair, almost everyone looked a little better than last game but it still wasn’t anywhere near good enough to beat a team that looks as motivated and rejuvenated as the Bruins.

Leddy-Mayfield is an absolute disaster. I like Leddy a lot and will defend him most chances I get, but he’s been horrible of late. Mayfield has somehow been worse. I’d love to see both out of the lineup but unfortunately there’s literally no one who I can confidently say can capably replace either of them. We’ll start with Mayfield because he’s been especially bad and Coburn has a similar play style to him. Hickey would also work here, he looked very good in his short return to the lineup.

The forwards are even harder to figure out because they get shuffled almost every game, but nothing seems to work with any consistency. I’ve honestly really liked Zajac so far, but 13 and 7 need a real top 6 winger to play with (although I won’t lie, Barzal has been AWFUL lately). Either Palmieri, who has been getting a little better each game (which isn’t saying much tbh) or Beauvillier (who has been our best player since the trade), needs to play on the top line and STAY THERE. The revolving door of 1LWs can’t possibly be helping 13 and 7, so hopefully Trotz will give them a partner and keep them there.

Idrk know what’s going on with injuries, so I’m making some leaps. Bailey was a “game time decision” while Clutter was just “out” so I’ll assume 12 may just need a game or two while 15 will be out for a couple?

The problem with the forward lines is we have 4 lines but not one is dangerous because we need to have some slow defensive minded player on each line. I can't believe im saying this but I think komarov was better than zajac on the 1st line.

I wouldn't put bellows back in the lineup right now, his underlying numbers are underwhelming and we don't have time to experiment. I would go with:
palmieri-barzal-eberle
beau-nelson-wahlstrom
Bailey-pageau-zajac./MDC

Gives you a top 6 that can push opposing D back and score goals.

The defense is concerning. I agree with leddy and mayfield , also dobson has been off lately. He given me 17-18 pelech vibes - he makes some costly turnovers but his IQ is so high hes able to recover prevent quality chances against. I want to see hickey with dobson...

apparently since trotz decided not only is Zajac going to take the face-offs but also play center. So far its a failed experiment. Barzal has looked terrible playing lw.

Ruff did the exact opposite. He left Hughes at center and made Zajac a wing. It didn't work out because the speed difference but it wasn't that bad.

Yeah I mean zajac works hard and has some skill, but you do not want him on a line with your best offensive player. You’re definitely not going far in the playoffs with zajac as your 1C ha

All good points, except for what you said about Komarov. Still don’t mind Zajac at 1LW, but I still can’t help but think Palmieri is realistically the best option in that spot (since Beau will never get to play up there).

On defense, Leddy and Greene weren’t awful together in the playoffs last summer. Since there’s precedent there, I wonder if that’s something they consider trying again. Of course I doubt Mayfield actually gets benched, so it’s a moot point lol. I’d bet a good chunk of change the d-pairs will be the same next game.

But while we’re on the topic, would you split up Pelech and Pulock rn to help compensate for how shallow the rest of the D is? Noticed Leddy take a couple shifts with Pulock tonight (accidentally maybe), so I wonder if they’re toying with that idea.

Miss Toews a little more every day...

Zajac isn’t even at lw, barzal is. That’s the problem. They’re making barzal play a position he’s not used to just to accommodate zajac.
We acquired palmieri , a player that needs someone to create for him, and we have him in a middle 6 checking role...put him with barzal already , I’m sure he can win 44% of his faceoffs like zajac did yesterday

I would not break up pelech-pulock. If anything I’d play them more. They’re a top 5 d pairing and have a ton of chemistry. At this point I don’t think it’s in the best interest of the team to break them up. I would go with:

Pelech-pulock
Leddy-Greene
Hickey-Dobson
