This is focused on the expansion draft and taking advantage of teams who want to protect too many players.
PROTECTION LIST: allen, nurse, bear, klefbom, mcdavid, draisaitl, nuge (resigned), yamo, pulju, archibald, kunin.
Basically we get free 2nd and 3rd round picks for protecting players who could not be protected by their own teams. nashville will protect 4 d-men so they can only protect arvidsson forsberg jarnkrok and johansson. screw duchene. anyways, we don't really have that many players that need to be protected so we have extra spots that we can use to our advantage. then we trade the player back to their team and get a pick for our trouble. good deal for everyone except seattle. furthermore, making side deals before the expansion draft actually helps us because seattle is in our division and limiting their selection/ability to trade with other teams like vegas lessens the chances of them becoming an instant powerhouse. we are helping the preds and habs, but are actually helping ourselves twice by undermining seattle and getting free picks. we only play the habs twice next year and nashville three times.
