why are we retaining and also not getting more value for giving up the better player in both trades

How does acquiring Domi make it a Sutter style team? Sutter coaches a very similar style to Torts and Domi has been dog**** this year under Torts. Monahan has at least adapted to the Sutter style well

That might work for the Jackets. Maybe. Part of the issue is that we'd really like a defensive playmaking type to play with Laine, and Monahan isn't that. But he might still be useful.
