Whats the logic in a rebuilding team like the Sabres giving up picks, and a contract control player for a soon to be UFA in johnny?

Why trade a RWer with picks for an older left winger whos leaving in a year, and then throw Ruotsalainen into the top 6 on his off hand wing where he has not played

Why are we giving up a 2nd round pick for Seattle to take Miller?

Adam Larsson is not worth that money and pairing him with Dahlin would be a poor choice

If they keep Eichel they are not rebuilding they are looking to compete now

The pick attached is to keep them from taking Risto , Asplund or Bjork

Lol. Can we just be real for a second here? The Sabres are one of the worst teams the NHL has ever seen. There is exactly zero reason to think that they have internal options that will get them to compete. The Sabres looking to compete is an absurd premise.

Risto? You're giving up assets so they don't take Risto? The guy who's making 5.4M and one of the worst d men on our team? You should be hoping they take him.

Skinner can waive his NMC too, which would allow us to protect Asplund/Bjork.

If Jack is going to stay we are going to have to show him how we are going to be significantly better right away. Olofsson is a nice player and a great weapon on the PP. However Gaudreau is a much more impactful player. Arrtu has benn playing on his off side. Bjork - Cozens - Ruotsalainen has been the alignment. His goals have all been coming from his off side similar to how Oloffson generates most of his offense

Agreed it is more than I would like to pay for this player, but it may be what it takes for the Sabres to aquire a quality UFA to fill this role

Sure Skinner could but that doesn't mean he will. Risto still holds value in the league and that is why I moved him to Winnipeg for a good prospect and a third.

They have had one of the worst stretches the league has ever seen. They are by no means a good team but it is Hyperbole to call them one of the worst teams in league history. The way things have trended since their coaching change they may pass a few teams in the standings by the end of the season.

Okay we’ll just pretend that bad stretch didn’t happen.

There's no reason for him not to. He's obviously not gonna be selected. Risto has been on the trade block for what seems like forever. No biters. I really don't think he has any value especially at that cap hit in the flat cap era. Best case scenario is he gets selected by Seattle and we get 5.4M in cap space.

Yea and they're still only 1 point behind the Devils & 2 points behind the Ducks.

Worst team in the league? Sure.

One of the worst in history? Lol not even close.

It happened and cannot be ignored but is only a portion of the season. I would argue that the Sabres will finish at around 43 points .383 points percentage. Not good but not historically bad. This would all be accomplished with having below nhl caliber goaltending for over 60% of the season. Sabres are actually .500 points percentage with Ullmark in net. Additionally the Sabres best player by far Eichel missing 65% of the season. One of the top pair defenseman missing 80% of the season and historically bad coaching. The underlying #'s for the Sabres players after the coaching change have seen a dramatic jump for 90% of their roster. It is too be expected to see a bump when their is a coaching change in the nhl, however the stark contrast is above that seen by most over this time span

He has been available forever but the Sabres ask has been higher than what anyone has wanted to pay. The Sabres reportedly turned down deals for nick ehlers and Taylor hall in prior trade offers. The cap hit is why I had the Sabres retaining 25% of his salary.

Just to be clear, this all started by someone saying the Sabres would be looking to compete now. That’s a real bad idea.

It is never a bad idea to look to be competitive. The Sabres have plenty of young talent to build around. Was it a bad idea for Minnesota to try and be competitive this year just a year after finishing 21st in points percentage last year just a few points ahead of the Sabres?

Minnesota was in a much different position. They had a legitimately good blue line.

I think we can all agree that buffalo is in a different position, given that they meant to take a step forward this year, and took a large step back. Buffalo needs to go scorched earth.

McCabe is everything Larsson dreams of being but without the slow skating. Just resign him, he wants to stick around I'll bet
