I'd rather just keep Holtby, Lind, and the picks

Its creative but it probably would cost more than that. I cant really see anyone wanting Holtby

Eriksson buyout is really not worth it.

They have a 4m penalty next year and 1 million the year after.

If they just leave him on the roster it's 4.875 million and they're done.

I guess it saves them 1 million bucks though and spreads the cap hit over two years... But you have the cap space not to do it

If it costs any more VAN backs out. He's been pretty decent lately... his bad games came when the team as a whole was bad. I am not in to pay assets to move money, but I like Hill, so that makes it enticing. Lind's a steep price, but I might do it in this case.

Is DiPietro not ready for backup duties?

Don't know. Haven't seen enough action from him. Was hoping he'd get a few starts in this year.

I remember him being highly hyped. Haven't followed him since though. But I feel like I remember more hype (at least early on) for him than Demko, but I'm certainly not a Nucks fan, so maybe my memory is misserving me

Demko's better. Higher ceiling from the start. But Mikey also has legit starter potential. Demko was seen as being on the shallow end of elite. I just don't think Michael is ready yet. I think 1 more year would be of benefit. This is why I want to keep holtby the extra year

My thinking is that Seattle has to take somebody, and honestly it's probably Lind. This is essentially just swapping Holtby and a few picks for Hill to save a few million on the cap which allows us to re-sign Hughes and Pettersson with some comfort room.

I agree. I kinda threw that in early-on thinking I'd need the cap space at the end of it all but by leaving Eriksson in the minors instead of the buyout the Canucks would still be nearly cap compliant. Maybe just don't re-sign Sutter, or buyout one of Roussel/Beagle instead?

Lind is gonna be protected so they aren't taking him. If you're desperate for cap space just buy out Holtby

Interesting, I assume you would be exposing Virtanen then. Who do you think gets taken?

The reason I think this deal ultimately would benefit the Canucks is acquiring Hill. I didn't throw him in just because trading Holtby would leave us without a backup, I threw him in because he's the exact type of backup this team needs. Young, cheap, effective (in my opinion) and attainable. If our core are hitting their peak in the next 2-5 years, he's absolutely the type of guy I'd want to develop into our backup in that time.
