NYI SEA after expansion

Created by: Leafsfan416

Description
If NYI lose Leddy, this could be a trade, just a framework, for a Rielly - Varlamov swap. This would also depend on if Sorkin is ready to be the # 1 next year. I don’t have access to the websites that give better stats, ie Wins above replacement, I feel like a straight up Rielly for Varlamov wouldn’t work and with Varlamov having the extra year I added the second round pick. Added B-C prospect in Dal Colle for the Leafs.
Is this fair, change it someway? Or are the Leafs just better off keeping Rielly and resigning him?

For me this gives the Leafs goalie security for the next two seasons and allows Sandin to move into the top six.

For the Islanders they get a #1 offensive Dman, would help replace the offense lost by Towes.

Rielly is way more valuable than that package, and than they add a 2nd? No dice from Toronto

Ok, fair. How would you change it?
Just keep Rielly?

Alright, that’s not really helpful. How would you change the offer?

I wouldn't, I just wouldn't make the offer.there is nothing about it that i like. The islanders dont have anything that fills what the leafs would want for rielly that they'd actually give up for him. And i have zero interest in bringing in varlamov or dal colle

Why are we trading Rielly?

I don’t see Rielly being here long term. Even if they can resign him to a contract similar to Krug, committing long term to Morgan scares me. Plus then you have both him and Muzzin blocking Sandin. I’m not suggesting giving Sandin in the top 2 but I definitely want him in the top 4 next year. I think this is a win win for both teams.

They have a goalie who is a proven starter that can play up to 50 games a year, split him with Campbell and you have a great 1-2, punch. He is exactly want Toronto needs and then provides more mins to Sandin.

they have a 33 year old goalie who hasnt played 50 games in 3 years, who is currently maybe battling an injury and he makes 5 million dollars for 2 more seasons. We've seen how Andersen dropped off and he's significantly younger than Varlamov
Oh and "giving minutes to Sandin" is all well and good until he's not ready. Then what?
No, you dont trade top pairing defenders for aging goaltenders

Varlamov holds a 2.12GAA and 0.926SV% on the season. That has him sixth in goals-against average and tied for fourth in SV% on the season. According to Hockey-Reference, Varly is third for goals saved above average with 15.31. He’s also fifth for quality starts with 21. Only the cast of Vezina favorites has more quality starts than him. I’d hardly call him an aging goalie, you’d have him for two more seasons.
