Description

I’ve seen some people talk about offersheeting Pettersson since the Canucks don’t have the cap space to match.

In reality, the Canucks do have the space, even if they don’t do any cap dumps and don’t make any deals with Vegas.

The cap problem for Vancouver isnt re-signing Pettersson and hughes, the problem is putting together a team better than this years team

Canucks should resign Pettersson and Hughes to matching 6.5x3 bridge deals

Once their cap situation gets better, sign Hughes and Pettersson long term

I don't see how Pettersson gets a dime less than the Tkachuk/Barzal bridge deals. You could easily make the argument that it should be more.

Ideally yes, but I in this scenerio Pettersson has signed an offer sheet of 10 x 7 and the Canucks are matching

I don't know why they would? If you want someone to take a discount, you've got to make it beneficial for them as well. Saying "Oh yeah, we'll get you on the other side of this deal (as long as you don't have an off year, get hurt, etc.)" doesn't make a lick of sense to me. Want a discount? Make it a 5 year deal, and walk them straight to free agency. Add to that the fact that both are going to pay over 20% of their income back to the province of BC.

I could be completely off base, but if it were me, I wouldn't be taking a discount, especially after I've seen the money that Benning has been burning since he started.
