Thats not point per game.
Strome is also a career a .55 point per game player over his career. If strome puts in another year like this, maybe I’ll believe it. Until then, I’m going to take his career
rather than a 50 game stretch producing with panarin. A good 50 game stretch for point production happens all the time, especially when a player is put in a situation conducive to putting up points. Let’s see him maintain this, not quite point per game rate, over a longer period.
No one said he was a point per game player, but that he’s close to it. I largely agree with a lot of your points and definitely think he needs another similar year to cement his trade value, but I do think Strome has turned his career around since joining the Rangers and it’s not 100% to do with Panarin as he still had 11 points in the 14 games Panarin was out, which is amongst the top point production in the league for 2nd line centers this season.
My point is that Strome has developed a significant amount of trade value since he was acquired for Ryan Spooner and isn’t an insignificant piece in a package for anyone anymore. Whether a team wants to take that risk without another year of similar production or the fact that he only has one year left on his contract is a different story, but Eichel has major risks as well at a much higher price tag.
Obviously, Eichel is the more talented player and with no other factors you build around him before Strome, but the production and skill aren’t so far apart that I would risk adding several other major pieces like Kappo, Schneider and high drafts in a deal to replace Strome with Eichel. Are the Rangers a better team with Zibenjad and Eichel down the middle than with Strome -absolutely, but it doesn’t add leadership, toughness, defensive responsibility, or help in the face off circle and that’s what the Rangers need down the middle the most. For the price of adding the elite skill Eichel provides in addition to the Skill the team already has in bunches I don’t think they are a better team. The cost at this price is just too high and there are much better fits than Eichel for the Rangers for equal or less value than this deal.
I’d rather target a Bo Horvat, Hintz, Kopitar, or even adding getzlaf for a season or two before I break the bank to add Eichel. The only thing making this plausible is James Dolan and that’s the scariest thing for Ranger fans.
