Canucks 2021-22 Starting Lineup Projection

Description
Intro:

They probably won't move the needle at all and will let contracts expire (lets be real). Who ever they draft won't be ready for the 2021-22 season.

UFA:

When if comes to re-signing UFAs, you can bet that Sutter will return on a deal of some sort and hopefully Hamonic does as well. There isn't much money left so if Edler comes back it'll have to be at under $1.5M. That probably means he's gone and they acquire a bottom six penalty killing defenseman.

RFA:

RFA related, Pettersson and Hughes get bridge deals, Hoglander's salary cap is adjusted to the correct $1.1M, Lind & Juolevi get re-upped at their qualifying amounts, and Podkolzin is signed.

Extra Cap Restraints:

Hughes maxed out his bonuses so there will be $850K in Bonus Overages for the 2021-22 season.

Expansion:

We'll wait to see what happens with Virtanen, but this area is very very bare. Seattle probably doesn't take Holtby without picks. So I guess they go Gadjovich? Maybe they trade for another defenseman left exposed and Juolevi is taken?

Conclusion:

Not much will happen due to the limited amount of space (it shows only being able to have two scratched players). Some depth pieces could be signed, maybe they get lucky with Holtby being taken in expansion and pick up a decent upgrade on defense (but that is wishful thinking with Benning in charge). They take this year to let the bad contracts run out and take their swing in 2022-23.

The Hughes and Pete contracts could be tough. The players have a lot of leverage in my opinion. Those bridge deals would be wins for the Nucks.

Hughes camp can use Chabot, Ekblad as comparables on a long term deal. (about 10% of the cap)
EP camp can land somewhere between Aho and Eichel. (10.5-13%)

Obviously it would be scaled down for a bridge, but definitely some solid comparables for those guys.
Pete might accept. Hughes will want more for 4 years IMO

You really don’t think they would use a single buy out? Holtby buy out and replace with dipietro saves a lot of cap hit and also saves a lot of real dollars

I doesn't really make sense to buy out Holtby. At the deadline (depending on how the Canucks look) they could trade him without giving up assets. If managements goal is to maximize their potential for the 2022-23 season, like they said, then biting the bullet on all these contracts makes more sense than have some buyouts carry over.

That's just my opinion, but we will wait and see.
