I think the biggest difference in hockey between fans and people in the business is the understanding by almost everyone in the business and literally no fans that nobody would give a 7th for Ristolainen with 50% retained.

Congrats on him having his first slightly better season last year But he was the worst defensemen in the NHL for about 5 years prior and no one else has forgotten.

Risto probably will be exposed to Seattle at this point in the expansion draft - not because he's awful (some justified) but there are better/younger options to protect.

Sabres should expose Risto (protect Dahlin, Jokiharju & Borgen) and hope Seattle takes him. Addition by subtraction and the $5 mil in free cap space would be welcomed.

If I'm Seattle, I'd take one of our forwards we're going to have to expose (likely Asplund or Bjork) over Risto though, which is what I predict they'll do
