Lol Wild fan actually. The idea behind the whole thing was finding a way to pry Coots from Philly, but couldn't find an agreement between MN/Philly that worked for both - i.e. I assume Philly would pass on Dumba + 2 1sts for Coots. For MN this sheds Dumba's cap to help resign Ek, Fiala and Kaprizov while also finding a true 1C. IMO I don't think MN is losing here at all. Buffalo probably finds a better offer, though.

The Philly + BUF side to this were just guesses. I don't know either of their needs very well or what they're willing to part with.

Since this would be an offseason trade if I am not mistaken the Wild would have to protect 4 D in the expansion draft to protect Dumba. Otherwise Seattle likely selects him.

I guess that helps with thr cap issue but you lose an asset for nothing

No you're exactly right, Seattle almost certainly takes Dumba unless we protect 4D - I'd need to rework the concept a bit to factor in Seattle implications.

Gotcha

The way I look at it, BUF is just getting 3 firsts and 2 salary dumps. Ghost isn't a guy that can play tough minutes, which is what BUF needs, and Vorachek is overpaid for the next 3 years. BUF has been in rebuild forever, and need actual pieces to get them competitive quickly. This is not the return they need for Eichel. It's gotta be NHL talent, at good cap hits, and maybe a short term bad contract to make the numbers work.

I think Minny is giving up way too much for Couturier in this deal. Philly would jump at the opportunity as they have depth at center, and need a solid steady D man to work with Provorov.

In this deal, Philly gets to dump unwanted salary (they want to move Ghost and have to move one of Voracek or Giroux, cause they just aren't producing to contract), and in return they get a number one center and a top 2 D man.

PHI would be set, MIN would take a small step back because of the 2 firsts given up and BUF would be stuck in rebuild hell for the 3-4 years.

Just my opinion.....

I think they will be one of the few teams to go 4/4/1. But, if Parise and Suter were team players, they'd waive their NMC so the team could protect more assets. There's no way Seattle takes either of those 2 guys.

Yeah that's good insight - I think overall it's probably just too convoluted of a trade for an otherwise passable offer by Buffalo (or at least one that gets beat by other teams). I do think the Wild would take that deal for Coots though. Others may disagree, but both of the 1sts are late and a 1C solves a TON of issues for the Wild. Getting a 1C without giving up Boldy or Rossi is something they'd have to deeply consider.

Totally. This would be so huge for them. Gotta believe exploring options on Parise, even if that just means waiving NMC, is a top priority for BG.
