Ideal team on July 20th

Description
NOTE: POST HAS BEEN EDITED (If anyone is reading this lol)

Just fyi, this isn't a declaration of ALL the moves I want us to make and additionally, the direction the team should go in is still debatable. This is basically just where I want to see the team the day before the Expansion Draft. All of the RFA's and UFA's who were with the Sharks in 2020-21 are resigned, but since the official free agency period won't happen until later in July, that isn't accounted for either. The lineup isn't perfect, it just contains all the guys who are relevant to the Seattle ED.

So with that in mind, the Expansions draft protections look like this:

Forwards:
Hertl
Kane
Meier
Couture
Labanc
Balcers
Gambrell

Defense:
Karlsson (NMC)
Vlasic (NMC)
Simek

Goalie:
Korenar

All the requirements for the Expansion Draft are met, as Komarov, Sorensen, Burns and Jones are all signed for 2021-22 and left exposed.

  1. Lomberg, Ryan
Additional Details:
Sharks also acquire Chris Driedger's signing rights
FLA
  1. Donato, Ryan [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Donato had a good 1st half of the season but fizzled out late in the year. Frustrating cause I know he has much more in him, but I don't see it working out long-term in SJ. Sharks replace a forward who they would have to leave unexposed for a goalie they can protect instead. Helps Florida get some value out of Driedger instead of losing him for nothing as well.

I really don't see another team paying a 3rd for a guy that would be on his 4th team in 5 season at the age of 25. A 3rd seems steep for a player like that. I think it's more likely that he just doesn't get qualified if SJS truly want to move on from him.

Excellent stuff. I agree with basically all of it, though I'd rather save the cap space and resign either Sorensen or Nieto for cheap instead of acquiring Komarov + a 2nd and use that cap space to really go after needed UFAs -- even if they're for 1yr deals.

All valid points, but I really don't think even a late 3rd in a less highly-scouted draft is reaching too much. He definitely still has skill and was scoring at like 0.5 PPG for half the season until he got buried on the 4th line (undeservedly imo) and then got injured. It's more just a move to get value out of a player who we'd probably lose to Seattle in the ED.

Thanks! smile

Yeah that's fair. Komarov move is just to re-gain some assets (specifically a 2nd this year) while getting someone who can be exposed. Killing two birds with one stone. Could always buyout Komarov later on in the offseason to save some $$ or just not make the trade at all and sign someone like Nieto or Marleau or something since my plan has always been to re-up Sorensen. No biggie.
