Yeah, this. Honestly I'm budgeting both Zibanejad and Fox to make 9mil each... whether it's a little lower or not, I think it's best to budget for the "worst case". Hertl is going to make in the neighborhood of 6-7mil, which isn't a crazy raise over his current salary, but it's still there. I also think Georgiev absolutely has to be apart of that deal for SJS, so I'd just erase the other trade and package it with SJS.

The VGK trade also doesn't seem to make much sense for them, as the Chandler Experiment seems to have worked and paid off for them. I don't think they're really upgrading enough to also throw in a top 4 defenseman as well

Add in that Chandler is almost half the price and locked up for another few years

29M cap space next year for him Zibanejad and Fox. I’m not sure why people act like Rangers aren’t in great cap shape.

Rangers would be stupid to decline that. They get harder to play against, better on face offs and Hertl playing with Panarin will have more points than Strome playing with Panarin.

It doesn’t have to be Stephenson but something like that would be ideal. Strome isn’t going to be a Ranger long term

If SJ needs a goalie then maybe Georgiev goes there. Buffalo needs goalies all over the place tho which is why I thought they would be a fit

All right lets do some math here
> lets assume all 3 of Fox, Zib, and Hertl get an average of 7M (really generous they probably get more) 29.09M - 21M = 8.09M with 15/23 players under contract
> Kakko gets 3-5M, lets split the difference and say 4M. 80.9M - 4M = 4.09M with 16/23 players under contract
Even if every other player takes league min of 750k you are still over the cap

Next lets look at the following year
> ~3.5k coming off the cap to extend Lafreniere and Miller assuming every other RFA takes their QO

Kakko jumping from 925K to 4M is a big jump. Let’s see if he performs first before we give him a crazy raise like that LOL. 21-22M seems about right for the other 3 tho.

I’m not worried about 2022-23 the cap will go up with the new deals.

maybe Buchnevich is a cap casualty instead of signing him. Rangers can afford Hertl tho. If they couldn’t they wouldn’t be even mentioned for Eichel lol

Im not saying they cant afford Hertl, I'm saying your above team cant afford him
