Why would the Panthers trade Barkov?

Yeah I 100% agree but this is the last year of Barkov's contract and I'm not entirely sure if he wants to re-sign, even though they had some success this season.

There is 0 indication that he will not re-sign. Look through years and years of interviews, you will never hear anything about leaving, he wants to win in Florida.

What I am curious about is if he thinks Florida is where that can be done especially going back to the old divisions. Tampa, Toronto and Boston will be in the way. Ottawa is on the rise. Florida definitely won’t have the easiest of times in the coming years.

We had to face Carolina and Tampa, 2 of the best teams in the NHL, this year. Boston should realistically be on the decline and Toronto's numbers are inflated from the North Division's overall skill level. Plus, we can only improve next year with Ek returning and Lundell coming over, and hopefully we can move Yandle somewhere very far away...

Gotta figure out how to get away from Bob. Even if it takes retaining half, that contract is just awful.
