I don't think it improves us defensively. Barrie and Dougie are both offensive defencemen. Great offensively but defensively doesn't improve us.

Oh HELL no. For one, Strome is not the sort of center we need (we need either a "heavy minutes shield" guy or a legit #1C, and he's neither). For another, Merzlikins has basically siezed the starter's seat AND he's expansion-draft exempt so we don't have to worry about losing him in any scenario. Trading one for the other is a very solid Not Going To Happen.
