The lagesson inclusion is underrated as they'll be glad to get a young NHL capable player at such a low cap hit so I reckon they're honestly ok with the return

I like the idea of a rebuilder retaining some salary. As far as McDonagh, I think he's probably a top 4 d man for the next 3-4 years and if it's really bad in the last few years then you buy it out. The biggest reason you get him though is the leadership.
