Not nearly enough for Eichel, Odds of Jones resigning with Buffalo less then 1%

Only like 5% of UFAs re-sign with their original teams and even unlikelier when the team is weak so it's likely this return for Eichel is *Zero* starting in 2022

Zero😳

For Jack Eichel

hi, who said Sabres accept this trade if Jones is unwilling to extend his contract? this happens only if he accepts

Ok look at it this way, I made this point on a HFBoards on a thread about Marner for Eichel. Before the Leafs tanked for Matthews they had a rag-tag core built around Kessel who they acquired at age 22. Kessel was a very good player on the leafs who lead their team in production every year, however the team never got anywhere with him and were finally able to rebuild properly after moving him .

The point I'm trying to make is that even if Jones signs an extension (which he definitely won't) the team wont really get anywhere, they will be stuck in no-mans land for years to come. Especially since both Risto and Reinhart will be leaving the team at latest next year

ok, legendary hockey fan, I see your point. Just don't understand why you look at Buffalo in so negative way. If Reinhart, Ristolainen wish to leave, let them walk. If Sabres hire the right people and replace aforementioned players then the organization may 'blossom'. Look at Islanders, e.g. how they improved after hiring really good goalie coaches and Trotz. They were really mediocre before - and since then have joined to legit playoff contenders.

The Sabres have no talent that may blossom. If Eichel/Reinhart leave them, all their prospect pool has to show for endless years of sucking is two D (Dahlin and Joker), two forwards (Cozens and Quinn), and maybe a goalie (UPL). Decent prospects, but not an indicator of future success when the roster is otherwise barren and the prospect pool lacks depth behind them (which is really inexcusable, Johnson and Peterka are okay but everyone else is pretty mediocre).

their prospect pool might get better as they likely to win the 1st OVR this year. so consider you will have OWEN POWER in your roster.

One more good prospect is not going to fix that franchise. Theyd still need another D prospect with top 4 potential and like 6 more forward prospects with top 9 potential to have a solid group put together

one more good prospect is a step towards completing that shopping list of a fix solution to the dumpster fire that is the sabres.

but what i was saying is, draft 1ovr (powers) who will be nhl ready and can slot into 2nd or 3rd pairing right away solves 1 of those problems. so positional need there is slightly less urgent as you probably have your future top 2 with dahlin 1A and powers 1B.

trading for someone like dermott from leafs locks in your bottom pairing D L/R gaurantee.
