Description

This is based on the SJS side of the deal I posted: https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/457719?post_id=2379364

Think both sides win with this. Caps overpaying a bit here but it's just to get the deal done.

SJS get's a highly skilled top 6 C locked down for 4 more years. A young starting goalie and a NHL ready skilled center that can play their 3C. Caps get a cheaper top 6 C though only has 1 more year before UFA so a little of gamble but think Caps could lock him down.

people keep trying to replace Kuznetsov bc they are m ad he got COVID lol. imagine if other teams 1-2c (65p-75p guy) had a similar issue. Weare literally trading him for pennies on the dollar for guys with no term and giving up prospects.

I like Kuz a lot and have no problem keeping him. Just saying if we have to move him then move him for a good player. Hertl certainly isn't "pennies on the dollar". He's a young, highly skilled center like Kuz. He'd be a great replacement.

I agree but you tend to have to do that to please everyone around here. But Vanecek will most likely be selected by SEA anyways and Pilon probably won't crack Caps top 9 even though he's ready.

Don't think he would get 9-10M from anyone as a UFA, especially with the cap staying flat.

i dont believe the cap will be flat after next season....teamsare allowed to have fans + the new TV deal

Cap's fans get frustrated that kuzy doesn't produce enough so their solution is to pay extra to trade him for a player who produces less and sign him for around the same price?

seems impossible to keep it flat that long and keep up with the current salary demands of players

The same place you would fit them in if you kept Kuzy. You shouldn't not go for it because it might hinder the progress of some lottery ticket prospect. If all those guys work out, great play them on the wing or have them take Eller and Dowds place.

Hertl has played wing so you can shift him over or vice versa. Think Protas will take Eller'splace.
