Keeping the Kids and 1st rounders

Created by: CementHead27
Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 4, 2021
Published: Jun. 4, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Buying out Neal and Koskinen saves us around 7 million and gets rid of two bad contracts. Paying Seattle to take Kassian with Bear, Safin, and a third moved Kassian’s contract but also gives them Bear who I’m hoping they’ll take interest in because I don’t see anything in him worth keeping .

I would start the year with the veterans in the bottom six and work the youngsters into the lineup slowly.

Bear played a bunch on the top pair last year

Fared pretty well

Everyone sees an NHLer in him; but to what extent?

Bear also had the concussion from being hit with the puck while on the bench, which impacted his season significantly.

I can't see Edmonton moving him - he had the classic sophomore jinx/slump. Expectations were really high after last season, and he didn't perform up to some fans expectations. That said, he played 47 games this year as a 23 year old right shooting defender, with 8 points and -1 on a roster where Koekkoek was -7 in 18 games with a single point.

If you don’t see an NHLer in Bear, I doubt your ability to see your own hands

I played the position and have watched the game for over 50 years. Now that we’ve established that, you tell me in all your expertise what it is you see in him as a player?

I could throw in a pick or mid level prospect. It’s not that far off though.

I think he can play in the league but he is absolutely never going to be a top 4 defenceman

Clifford you could have cheap, that's no problem. The two players EDM is offering here hold little (at best) to no (more likely) interest to the Blues, who get decent to solid value for cap hit out of Blais (who also may have value as a potential Seattle expansion pick/bribe pick) and Bortz. Those two guys certainly aren't untouchable, but this whole thing here doesn't really work for the Blues.

Ok you’re a has been, the games changed, an im not gunna brag about playing semi-pro hockey on CapFriendly tears of joy
All Bears underlying numbers say the contrary. Had the second highest DFF% against elites (in the league), drastically raises mcdavids xGF% compared to Barrie
All this experience watching the game should tell you he’s the best all around defencemen the oilers had this year, even after a mid season concussion.
But no you remember a bad play from the playoffs
Crazy to think you have Kris Russell in the top4 and you talking bout hockey knowledge tears of joy

I see analytics as I expected. Look I’ll save you a lot of time, Google Greg Hawgood. That’s most likely Ethan Bear’s career except Hawgood was a lefty. And you rushed to analytics because you have the rather ignorant assumption that a math equation can explain each shot on the ice. It’s nonsense because a good shot is a shot that gets through the defence. It’s not particularly important where the shot comes from or if it’s a slap shot or wrist shot, at the end of the day a good shot is one that ends up in the net. Marchand’s game winner was a stat nerds nightmare shot but it won a playoff game. Stat nerds like the Leafs gm think they can build a team with a computer and look at where they are now. According to the stat nerds, Dallas should have never sniffed the Cup finals. Enough already

Imagine considering Toronto is build completely on analytics with the adds of Foligno, Thornton, and Simmonds, tears of joy tears of joy , tell me about Colorado, Tampa & Carolina though... casually leave them out of all analytic discourse

Marchands goal isn’t a nightmare, showed that it should have been a save, which it should have, Varlomov lost his post and his GSAx was dinged for it.

It’s quite hard for you to make any arguments against analytics when you truly can’t comprehend them. They are common place and ignoring them is laughable in today’s game. You parade the fact you made the Dub 30 years ago.. you don’t know the game today
