Because Eichel has played in a dumpster fire for his whole career and he has performed very well in there. Can't really penalize him for not playing in the playoffs if he plays in the worst organisation.

Fox was better offensively (which is what they grade on) he had 47 points and Makar had 44

And as you said, Makar played 12 games less. He was the only D in the league that managed to have a PPG at 1.

My money is on Makar. He was an integral part of COL's success, who had many injuries to boot, and still managed to win the Presidents Trophy.

It's the PHWA members who vote in most of the awards, including Hart, Calder, Norris, Conn Smythe etc. In other words, it is not a fan vote. It's professional sport journalist vote.
