Moving Rielly

Created by: DougieGilmour
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 8, 2021
Published: Jun. 8, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Time to trade him and move out the extra junk. I’m sure Dubas will do something stupid instead of anything remotely close to this

Here’s how my thinking works here:

1 Hyman is going to get over 5 million per from someone and it absolutely can’t be us

2 The Winnipeg trade makes perfect sense for both sides. Rielly isn’t worth his salary but Winnipeg’s defence can’t move the puck and that’s one thing he can do. Ryan Murray and Sandin can both have reps on the PP.

3 Tampa is bent over a barrel with their cap problems and Cernak will be a casualty. We should be in for him because Holl is a third pairing player

4 Campbell had a great season but he’s never started a full NHL season. We will need a veteran goalie to be a 1B next year. Halak is one of the best 1bs out there

5 Since boy genius decided to overpay three forwards we have to completely rework our lines. That Vegas trade is controversial but not impossible. Smith is the best player by far in that deal but they have cap issues too and I doubt they’ll resign him. We probably won’t resign him either but we aren’t giving up any major pieces to land Smith.

6 Spezza returns. He’s the real captain of this team. We need to sign more leaders too like Staal and Goodrow.

7 Bozak returns at a reasonable price. Raffl and Bellemare are improvements over the nobodies we sent to Vegas and as well as the other filler pieces we had in that bottom six

Cernak isn't going anywhere you are delusional if you believe that.
He's Tampa Bays best at it's weakest position on a great contract it'll take an astronomical over pay to get him and this isn't close to that

Vegas isn’t in any cap trouble. It’s tight but we can basically bring back everyone. Move Reaves and Carrier and we create 2 million. There’s zero chance Vegas moves Smith for a spare part package like this.

Sure he is. Once that cap bubble bursts you’ll be giving players away like free candy

How can you resign him when someone will give him 5 million plus a year?

how many times has this been said the last 3 years with TB? somehow they never loose major pieces for nothing or real cheap wish i could put a large wager he's wear a bolt next year. his contract doesn't provide the relief where moving it makes any sense

Leaf fans thought last year they would get him for Liljegren. I got tired of telling them no Fn way. They just do not listen.

When you abuse the LTIR it’s easy to manipulate the cap. That’s not their fault though, it’s the league’s for allowing it

I know, our teams that lost to the Bruins were better than this current version of the Leafs
